It took me several months to get through crime and punishment because i was having trouble with how Dostoevsky referenced characters. Once i got the hand of it the plot and the way that he wrote was amazing. And Pilgrims progress i read way to Young, at like 9-10yrs because i was in a co op class for some reason. At the time i thought i understood what was going on (i didn't) but i reread it later in life and something's finally clicked and really made me enjoy the book and read alot more

Taking my time reading classics. I struggled to understand classic novels when I was younger. Time and patience makes a difference.

I read a lot for school. To ease the pain that causes, I’ve decided to read even more. But stuff I choose. For the love of god I just need to lessen the percent of my time occupied by utter academic gibberish. Here’s what I purchased on Saturday. I‘m reading Dubliners first and saving Dostoyevsky for when the weather‘s less depressing. I’ve read the Wittgenstein book and Waiting for Godot but just need to own my own copies at this point.

… and actually enjoying it. In the past year i’ve finally nailed down my taste/hit a groove with pleasure reading and now I can’t stop. I do a lot of reading recs in a way that I almost feel self-conscious about but I can’t contain it - truly bringing me crazy amounts of peace in my life right now. When I was 19-22ish, I spent a lot of time reading what I thought I *should* be reading and ending up spending 3 months trudging through a book just to say I did. I blame Red Scare Podcast. Why was I 19 thinking i needed to read Houellebeq and Lasch? Now I fly through pages and (mostly) love it all. or feel like I got something from it at least. Right now I‘m reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and loving it, can spend hours at a time with it. My favorite book is probably If on a winters night a traveler by Italo Calvino. Happy to get more recs always.

Find happiness in the little things. Bask in the sun rise, take a moment to people watch grocery shopping or a cafe. Go on drives to nowhere in particular with your favorite playlist blasting. Read plays to a stuff animal audience and really dramatize the characters.

We have one dying strip mall in this town and my friends and I just go there to wonder the few open stores left. We don't by anything we just peruse the places, make small talk with the shop keepers, sit and chat about the closed down shops on the benches. I also frequent the antique stores, and just look at the history thats brought in. Sometimes the store keeper drops by while you look and offer facts on some of the items. They get me out of the house and keep my mind off work and they're sometimes more accommodating than a coffee shop.
