Before I eat I’ve started to pray before meals. I pray for everyone involved in the cultivation and creation of my food. From the farmers, to the grocery clerk, to my roommate who sits with me while I cook. Helps me remind myself that even something as small as my meal is a part of a bigger community. Maybe it does nothing, maybe attunes myself to others around me (especially to migrant farm workers + their struggles), maybe it’s just sending good vibes.

This is so beautiful!!! I've been trying to get my friends on the secular rosary where you just dedicate each decade (theres 5, its the big beads) to a person or purpose and bead in between to a thought. I love that you think about who's brought you your food, its going to change my dinner tonight. thank you :)

in japanese, we have a custom to thank whoever made the meal, grew the food, and the sustenance that the food will provide. it’s all combined in one word but I still think it’s a great way to acknowledge these things 🫶

this is so beautiful. I grew up in a Christian household and while I don’t practice the religion, the ritual of prayer has always stuck with me. One of the easiest ways to practice gratitude and introspection!

I read an essay the other day about dumpster divers who believe if your prayers are too vague then the gods will confuse your intentions. I’m not religious, but that seems legit. I‘ve been trying it out to see what happens.

Kirkegaard talked about the purpose of prayer being not to affect the will of the almighty on the external world, but to rather affect the one who prays, internally. this was a really good revelation for me at the time of reading this and I am remembering it today. I think the idea holds weight even when removed from a religious framework. It also falls into an interesting loose grouping of ideas that start out as prescriptions, but reveal themselves in fact to be inevitable descriptions. Those kinds of ideas I find to be the most true. It’s true that our desires, expressed internally or externally, intentionally or unintentionally, do reflect back on to our internal selves to create a feedback loop of the will that affects our subconscious and conscious perception of the world around us. Today I am praying for the correct posture towards the Real. The only prayer I know is, ”may it be so.”

You do not need more advice. Or practice. Or thinking about it. Stop talking about it. Actually do it. Do it in baby steps or in giant leaps…but just go do it. I wish I traveled/worked out/spoke more languages/read more/made more art/knew how to do XYZ type conversations do not get you closer to doing it. Book that class, pick up that paintbrush, save that money for your flight, download those language apps and use them, buy that book. shut up and do it! With love

Looking for cheap simple vegan meals? Countries with a high Orthodox Christian populous fast from meat, dairy, and animal products for more than half the year. Typically you can find a treasure trove of meal ideas from these countries googling the term fasting foods plus the countries name I.E. Russian fasting foods Greek fasting foods Belarusian fasting foods Ethiopian fasting foods Simple ingredients, vegan, and different. Part of the ideology is that fasting food should not be overly complex so you will not be hunting down ingredients
