I HATE MY JOB!!!!! after 15 minutes of work in the morning nothing beats breaking out a book and reading for 4 hours, the finishing off the day with a 3 hour movie. i strong encourage committing time theft from your employer! they don't need the labor! btw i am current reading dream story by arthur schnitzler and then i might watch a michael shannon movie later.

I have a lot of downtime at my job so not sure how accessible this rec is. i am doing this rec partly to remind myself to do this more and not feel so bad when i do. You dont have to be working all the time at work and its better than goofing off in the computer.

free yourself from the chains of Big Work by saying you are working when you are doing something far more productive, like reading, stretching, catching up with friends, going for a walk, or taking a little nap. reclaim your time, reclaim your life

nobody at your bullshit email job is going to perish if you are away from your computer for fifteen minutes. don’t clock out. get paid to be in the sun. relish in every moment that you have no Slack messages to answer and do something that counteracts the soul-crushing pain of staring at a screen all day. whether you rest your eyes, read a chapter of a book, walk around your block - whatever it is, steal time because your employer probably isn’t paying you well enough to merit staring into the Outlook abyss for eight hours.

older films rock, and i HIGH recommend Shadow of a Doubt, Alfred Hitchcock’s self proclaimed best work. A movie about the death of the american small town, familial abuse, divorce, and weird incestuous tensions. it’s one of the more tense films i’ve seen without really showing too much actual voilence. It’s all about power, control, and how people can be manipulated. Also I am a huge fan of Park Chan-Wook’s Stoker, and had no idea that was loosely based on this film. That movie rips too go watch it after they make a fantastic double feature.

the amc a-list is well-known gem, but it is really one of the best deals available, especially after the recent change they made to it. four movies a week! what! However I get sometimes you just have to go to the cinema on a budget, tickets can be expensive. STILL, support your local independent theater if you can!! at least around me there are multiple rep theaters (shoutout the coolidge theater in Boston and the Brattle in Cambridge) that constantly show old films and introduce classics to a new audience. I will die for these theaters, and I try to find a balance between using my a-list for new movies and seeing rep screenings at the indies! you can do both! I LOVE MOVIES!!!!

get drunk, embarrass yourself, it’s worth it, it will strengthen your bonds (as long as it’s not your boss)
