Love Substack, but I think writers deserve agency and complete ownership over their work without feeling like they’re:
1. Stuck in a social media echochamber
OR
2. Dependent on the Substack model to the point where their brand can’t survive leaving the platform (if they’re forced to migrate, like with TT)
I’m very pro-“independent blog“ websites bc you quite literally carve out a small domain space on the internet JUST for your work — and you can throw in a bunch more personalizations (ex: colorful themes, graphics, coding stuff by hand, etc) that rly help make it become its own cozy space on the internet for yourself and your readers :)

I‘m wondering why we stopped having blogs and writing essays? I want to hear people’s thoughts. For a while like literally everyone else now ,, I wanted to make a substack… it fizzled out as an idea cuz I was overwhelmed by — yes — the writing part! the lack of direction and big open space wasn’t what would spur me on in that moment. Then moved on and thought about a website idea and format ,, and discovered that some of my best creative besties were all into doing smth similar. So we made a website all together! There are seven of us. We each post (a list of) Ten of {something} one day of each week (but we’re not as consistent as we’d like, hence our outsourcing for guest contributors) . I post on Saturday, and I now feel much more freed up in my writing than I did when I tried to make a substack. Yeah it’s just a “list” but the general, simple format has helped me get zany and intricate with it, see myself as a writer again. So ya i love this shit n love my friends pls check us out🤭🤭🩵🤸🏻

I have to disagree with the people who say that we need to “stay” and “fight“ for IG to be a better platform because in actuality, it’s our presence and engagement that gives them data, and therefore money. As long as they have those 2 things, they make their bottom line and won’t really care about its users desires unless they’re making a move for the optics.
If we REALLY want to hold them accountable, we need to impact the money they make, which means permanently deleting or marking your account as inactive & never coming back. They’ll only care if they’re bleeding money— so make them bleed.

Every piece I wear has some sort of sentimental story backed behind it (my bracelets/rings/necklaces/some of my earrings). For me, wearing sentimental jewelry serves 3 purposes:
1) Bringing life to pieces that have been given to me with love
2) Carrying my loved ones wherever I go
3) Prevented me from making impulsive jewelry purchases (because fast fashion jewelry doesn't feel the same way a gift does)
Ig the only exceptions I make in fast fashion jewelry is earrings, but only bc I need boring earrings for corporate-wear lol
