as a hyper independent eldest daughter, i have found it difficult to let people into my life and let them help me with things. But recently i am rediscovering that it feels very good to let people love on you. Let them take care of you and buy you things and tell you that you look Great. It is OK to rely on someone.

it’s hard at first but then it makes your life so much easier! judgement, from both inside and out, is such a big mental barrier - but once you’ve started to overcome it even once, it becomes so easy to be kind to yourself. people exist in a way that to live means we must need each other. needing more doesn’t make you any less of a person, rather it makes you more connected in the process. care creates closeness and our vulnerabilities are what bring us together.

as a natural caretaker, you might lean into the propensity to give support and love to everyone around you. just make sure you don’t neglect your own care as a result! this will only lead to resentment and depression

Remembering you can actively work FOR yourself and search for things that can make you feel like you’re being taken care of it may take a while and it may feel performative at first, but once you’re there with yourself, being gentler seeps into everything you do And you deserve that kind of relief
