Marina allen - EIGHT POINTED STAR

one of the most brilliant singer-songwriter records this year just came out. found her music seeing her open for Bright Eyes last year. The album hits all the right notes, it’s ethereal and lush but also intimate, carried by her amazing voice. There are echoes of Julia Holter and Joanna Newsom but the songwriting feels more ”grounded” than either of those artists if that makes sense. Check it out and see her play at Union Pool if you’re in NYC!

Short N Sweet

Girly Pop Nation: rise up 2024 has been an incredible year for pop music. Ngl it’s challenging that Sabrina is so talented and so beautiful- sometimes hard to be happy for her. But the music is so good and she’s so unserious that I can get past it. Early favs: Coincidence Bad Chem Juno Don’t Smile Also Slim Pickins is a nice s/o those of us who’ve been on Hinge. Now we have this song to tether our experience. edit: I’d also like to add that I admire Sabrina’s unapologetic horniness.

Drawing a picture and writing short prose instead of filming people doing weird stuff in public

Ok stay with me here. Too much public filming. This is going to discourage good weird public activity. We need people being weird in public. Odd dancing, carrying around insane items, freaked out fits, etc. Instead of a quick vid to show your friends, or, god forbid, *get internet clout*, people should be sketching the scene and describing it in colorful language. Now you have to take accountability for your opinion on the matter, your draftsmanship and writing gets better, and the public freaks have plausible deniability in the job interview. This goes for drunk man on the street tik tok videos as well. Put on a newsboy cap and start jotting. There should be exceptions like intentional performances or heinous crimes of course. I’m open to other exceptions I just can’t think of any rn. This will never be a reality but i can try
