idk how close you are, just start yapping. here are my fav things i’ve asked my mom: did you ever question your career and what would you do if you didn’t do what you did? what was your favorite halloween costume? what did you do for your 21st birthday? what do you fear? do you hate anyone? have you ever smoked a cigarette or had a lemon drop shot? who was your favorite boyfriend (aside from past or current husbands) if you got a tattoo what would you get? what did pregnancy feel like? what did giving birth feel like? do you ever regret having kids? what was your fav music as a teenager? if you were an animal, what animal would you be? when you look at me, do you see more of your face or dad’s? what was the first movie you ever saw in theaters and how much did it cost? what was your favorite hair style you ever had? was it the perm? what as the angriest you ever made your mom (my nana)? if you could change anything about yourself, what would it be? did you feel lost in your 20’s? do you feel lost now? do we ever feel older or do we just get older?

Calling your mom to talk about nothing and annoy her

every time I have a long walk awaiting me, i Tippity tap in my moms phone number and talk to her about nothing for the duration of my walk. Today I rang up my mother and strutted my stuff for 2 hours. We breached topics such as: what is the best way to season a pestle and mortar? does survivor comes out on tuesdays or wednesdays? David Shrigley? did She win bananagrams when we played it a couple of weeks ago or did she in fact totally cheat and none of her words were real words in any language? All in all. TRAVELING WITH YOUR MOM TO HER CHILDHOOD HOME

if you ever have the opportunity to go with one of your parents to where they grew up, take it. you’ll hear things you’ve never heard before, see things they saw, bask in their nostalgia with them. ask questions listen to their childhood playlist i believe we’re closer now than we were before we arrived.
