This may be blasphemous to some, but I cannot STAND the voice of the guy from cardboard swords. my ex really liked them, so I tried so hard to pretend I liked them but could not get past his voice. I will be looking into the rest 🫡
Chiodos, A Skylit Drive, Dance Gavin Dance, Brand New, Hawthorne Heights, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Underoath, The Front Bottoms
Maybe some of these aren’t technically Midwest emo but I don’t care
The mid-to-late-90s corpus of "Midwest" angsty suburbs emo is pretty massive and you don't really need to worry about running out of this style of music IMO. My personal favorite in and around the genre though is actually from New Jersey – Chris Leo (brother of Ted) delivers the characteristic tone of bittersweet/oblique-nostalgia-of-the-recent-and-hyperspecific-past with unique (and truly underappreciated) bookish sprechgesang vocals, Television-level guitar interplay, and politely epic chiming breakdowns.

Never have to worry about losing an earbud OR CHARGING THEM. I can never go back to bluetooth. Also the concept of bluetooth scares me idk how we did that as humans
im watching this show for the third time now, and it just gets me every time. one of the best shows ive ever seen. it’s so millennial cringe and uncomfortable yet emotional and personal. the millennial cringe helps with that btw. everything about this show is perfect. it makes me cry in the best ways
