I'm finishing up my undergrad thesis currently, and had to get it together earlier this semester, so I get it !! What I've learned is: sometimes, it's a mindset thing -- if I'm putting off homework, I remind myself that learning is fun, and it's a privilege that I get to do this. Sometimes, it's about deleting social media apps and throwing my phone across the room so it can't distract me. Sometimes I need an environment change, so I go to the library or a coffee shop or rearrange my room or just open the window. But, also, you need to make realistic goals -- it's ok if you don't accomplish everything in one day! Setting small goals/breaking thesis tasks down into smaller parts makes it seem more doable, too. Good luck on your thesis journey!! You got this :)
thanks sm for taking the time to answer! i really wanna get back to that mindset where i thought of researching/familiarising myself with a certain topic in all its aspects as fun, now it just feels a little daunting in a way. also, the task breakdown is so real, i constantly gotta remind myself that small and consistent is how itâs done. good luck to you too with the final stretch!!
and set small, but very very specific goals for yourself to complete! I like working at a coffee shop or the library for accountability because I know I can't just be on my phone all the time while people see that I have my laptop out (gotta look busy!) And the small, but specific goals make it easy for my brain to hyperfocus on the task at hand, since I know exactly what I need to do without any room to be distracted. good luck!!
if itâs emotions/anxiety/perfectionism: journal, maybe even talk to a therapist
if youâre feeling too exhausted: get a good nightâs sleep and consider having coffee the next morning
if youâre glued to your phone: delete any social media apps, use an app like screenzen to limit times on time consuming apps
feel âstuckâ or antsy: go for a walk, study in a place you donât normally study
if youâre confused/worried about doing it âcorrectlyâ: meet with your boss/professor and ask Qs so you can get a clearer
you donât know where to start: think about and write down every single step for the task, then use that as a checklist
i personally still have most of my social media on my phone, i just have a specific app that blocks how many times i can open the app, and for how long i can use the app for that open. i've been finding that it works pretty well for me at least, the app is called ScreenZen, it's at least on ios.
also, consider that you don't have to be productive all of the time! obviously, if you're not doing your commitments that's one problem, but if you're meeting everything on time then you're fine, productivity-wise. also, don't consider your hobbies to be productive - one way street to not liking what you're doing + doing things that are not productive is perfectly okay!
i (and others who limit time on social media) find it's less about a total decrease in tech, and more how you're spending your time with it, and how you feel about your time on and off it.
also - if you want to do something, but don't seem to have the motivation to do it, try making yourself do it for a short period of time - maybe 5 minutes on a game, or a chapter of a book. i find that helps at least get the ball rolling, that starting is sometimes the hardest part.
this was really long omg, i hope it helps!!
Sometimes I talk to my family or my coworkers or I hear an influencer online say âIâm just a girl hahahaâ and I am like oh my godddd how can you still think like âblue means boy pink means girlâ !!! And this literally affects their view on everything!!! What do you mean you think female dogs are âmore dramaâ than male dogs!! Theyâre dogs!!! Get me out of here!!!!
finally using my portable CD player again to listen to my favorite album that isn't on any streaming services anymore!! it's so fun to have physical copies of media I like, and it was great to not use my phone for once (though the CD would pause every time I accidentally bumped into the player while I was walking to class; it was kind of charming but also pretty annoying).
