a huge belief of mine is that all animals deserve to be cherished and honoured in life and death.
all beings are sacred.
in this piece i am honouring the body of a rat who will give life to my pet snake, obi.
i always handle these little bodies with care and give gratitude before placing them into the enclosure.
cyanotype allows me to further deepen my gratitude by memorializing those who are often an afterthought.

I went to a funeral today. My artist godfather had painted the entire coffin of his wife, vibrantly, with hearts and birds and colours. The thought of him painting it, the expression of his love to his partner of 33 years, using the same motifs he used to paint their wedding altar, it makes me want to think of ways to show love, to mark it. Both while my loved ones are still living, and to honour those now gone. How do we honour our love? Dedicate time to it? Make our grief a beautiful masterpiece of love?

saw this lil guy in the middle of the road so i moved him to a nice patch of dirt and put a little flower on him so he can rest a bit more peacefully. i was feeling lonely and sad today and something about this moment made me feel more connected and important

So I only have one small print from my past life.
I’ve had no motivation to decorate my pod since moving here because the space does not inspire me but I did buy this print because it reminded me of my cat Dolly. She suddenly passed away last year shortly after her first birthday from complications of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) a viral illness for which there is no prevention or cure. I have the print sitting on a shelf near my espresso machine in the kitchen and now every time I look at it, it feels like she’s here with me watching me ❤️
