especially when you try it out with friends. i recommend getting some cheap air dry clay and acrylic paint and creating little creatures and clowns and trinket trays. whatever you sclupt takes a day or two to dry, so you not only have a new thing you made with your own hands, but something to look forward to as you wait to paint it. it get's your brain off of the ick for at least a little bit. Here’s some stuff my friends and I made!

ceramics can be pretty expensive but using some air dry clay and making some pots/mugs/bowls/trinkets is super fun! and relaxing as well
i just finished doing a project last week with some nesting ones!! also just didn’t put any pressure on myself for them to look a certain way

I took up stained glass as a hobby a few years ago.
You know those shows where people move off the grid and they have so much pride for the way they live, even though they have to shovel thru 6ft of rocks and dirt every time they want to take a shower?
The closest I have gotten to that feeling is making things with my hands. it started at knitting, then shrinky dink keychains, then cricuting tote bags and t shirts, then collaging, and most recently making stained glass.
I love having Bloody battled lil finger pads and holding something sharp and real up to the window that exists in space and time because I FORGED IT!
In reality, I am making silly little suncatchers for my friends that Aren't all rock and roll, but it makes me feel powerful and good.
Can recommend stained glass but also any hobby where you create something fun and cute for Sport

I think in a world where most of us turn to doom scrolling and overthinking about the horrors of living in modern society, we need to start collectively engaging in fun lil' hobbies and projects.
I recently started collecting cute stickers and putting them into a blank sketch book after seeing a video on someone's sticker collection. so find something that speaks to you and keep being whimsical in this scary, cruel world.

You don't always have to be doing something productive or creative. Sometimes it is okay to just take a step back and exist.

I've posted about this once before and will post about it again, I'm sure. One of the things that I have noticed since getting letterboxed last year is how afraid people are to admit they like something. that new animated k-pop movie on netflix made me notice this again when three of the people that I have on there prefaced their reviews with a variant of "i consumed this ironically, but it was actually kind of good..." ...LAME... and a little bit pathetic to see tbh. We really need to remember that you only live once. just fucking enjoy the stuff you like, and stop asking the world for permission and acceptance to do so! being so afraid of what others will think when you post a review under a kid's movie is more cringe than admitting you like a kid's movie.
