I have recurring spaces. One is the creek near my young childhood home. recently, the woods near my house. sometimes total dream scapes that still stick with me.

I feel like I never have the same dream twice and I’m never having a first-person dream. I’m always a quiet audience member watching things happen to me. Sometimes I’m not even played by myself, but someone else.

I had a dream the other night, and the place seems so familiar, but I knew that it wasn't a place that I have ever been in waking life before. It looked like an old European village, a giant fountain in the center of the square, vast rolling hills with quirky little lopsided buildings built within them. Throughout the dream I felt, I have been here before, as I floated above outdoor cafes with vines cascading off the walls, I rolled down the hills and laid in the grass, I found a small pond with large structures (sunken statues? concrete dam walls?) emerging from the water.

Sometimes I dream about a college campus that only exists in my dreams. I remember my paths to certain classes, where I usually sit, and specific buildings. It's strangely comforting and familiar.

The other night, for example, I dreamt that there was a staircase inside my apartment that led to an entire other apartment—like a set from a 70s period piece/orange with smoke-stains—and an empty room with a very dramatic window and a desk that would have been greet to write at if it weren’t so far up the stairs. Something something about Bachelard / the attic room allegory for the brain. IDK, I just woke up happy that my rent didn’t increase with all the extra space.

They're like the Goldilocks zone between a total lack of stimulus and the overload of modernity; and quite moving seeing the slight signs of decay in these monuments of antisepticness
