I rec a lot but some things are personal and will stay that way. Social media is for sharing but not everything needs to be shared.

Completely agree- where do you personally draw the line?

@VIOLETGIRL somewhere between not sharing my SSN and keeping @TYLER in business. but seriously, probably becacause of the Uncertain Times, I'm caught between two competing feelings, of being more protective of my privacy, while also wanting to share and build community. One thing that I try to be mindful about is physical spaces. That could be described as gatekeeping, but I think it's also respectful in a time when online trends can overrun and exhaust a place. And personally, I think it's good to check in every once in a while and think about why I'm sharing something. I don't think there's anything wrong with seeking validation, it's something we all need and social media is an easy place to get it. I think often times social media isn't a very gratifying or long-lasting place to get it. That's less true with PI though, something about this site does stick in the craw a little more that other sites. Compliments I've gotten from @LUCIUS @SOFE @MARIANOLEONCZIK and others have lingered and I think the attitude on this site is more genuine, which makes the validation more meaningful. But, when it comes to sharing, I have no rhyme or reason. It depends on the thing. I like to make people laugh or put people on to something cool, or think about a quirky thing I like that others probably like but haven't thought to call out. but when it's something really meaningful to me, I'm more interested in just enjoying it and letting it feed my soul a little bit rather than sharing it. That's my overthinking answer.

@VIOLETGIRL the unique thing about this app / site / platform is that I don’t feel owed to interact with a photo of someone’s latest vacation, a video of their dog running through grass, or a poorly shot flick of a concert. It feels like here compliments and high marks are earned, not just given. I engage with a post because I resonate with it, I give it praise when it’s worthy of it. And not to say that it’s nice to post a pic of your toddler and get a dozen likes on it like I would on Instagram, but here it’s about connecting through a rec or ask. It feels aggressive to say that interaction on this app is earned not just given but I feel like to some level that’s what makes it different.

I don’t mean everything but there are some sacred things that cannot be shared with everyone. Of course people you trust but everything becomes a commodity once it’s trendy and then it’s ruined. Let’s keep sacred things sacred. Like my favorite thrift store that I’ll never tell a soul about.

You don’t have to tell everyone everything in/about your life, especially online, in today’s online yet frequently data-breached world. Like the great Christopher Wallace once said: Keep your family and business completely separated

a study issued last month found that dancing is the most effective way of treating and mitigating depression. Walking, therapy, and yoga also outpaced SSRIs. and if you're saying 'oh this was probably funded by Big Dance', there's no evidence of that and if you're saying 'that's just what a Big Dance shill would say', well honey you're right
