These short stories made me feel naked and uncomfortable and also made me laugh, like guffaw level laugh a couple times. If you ever feel absurd and lost especially in a city social scene or in your family or in your dating life here is a book for all of the above. Also has the original short story that Secretary is very loosely based on (definitely a different story and much darker tone).
a mostly comedic series of short stories and essays about the authors bizarre childhood/early adulthood. āDinah the Christmas whoreā is a real stand out and should be a traditional holiday classic Read-aloud
Very funny. There is a story about a woman who is in rehab to get over being zen / Buddhist which is hilarious. Last story especially hits if you have a Soviet dad who shows his love by remodeling your whole house and telling you to get out of the way (in a good way)
By David Sedaris. Hilarious snippets of his diaries. I love to have a book that I can read tiny snippets of when I have a free moment without getting confused on the plot.
Iām sick of feeling powerless so my new coping strategy is to not let a stupid system bully me into quiet despair. Iām learning how to use my stateās General Assemblyās online bill tracker and Iām subscribing to email updates for the agendas and the public hearings of the legislative committees Iām most concerned about. Iām memorizing all my legislatorsā names and emailing and calling regularly. Also: Check to see if your stateās Legislative Library has Libguides that explain in laymanās terms what bills are passing in your state and other educational/legislative resources you have freely available to you!!!
