As a complete non musician (barring two years of high school viola) with many music friends these are my uneducated two cents. I think these things create the vibe and signature of an artist or composer. Instruments kinda translates to color, the palette you're working with. Tempo sets the vibe, lighting. Lyrics are not always there of course but I feel like they can drastically change vibe so I would include it but I'm sure some people would not.
this is a good one… i wonder if lyrics can be a stand in for color instead since they dont necessarily have to be there but make a difference when present. ie instrumentals and black and white photography
@DEARDOVESWINGS that's why I did color as instruments because any can be included or not, but I also see what you're saying about presence vs absence. Both work in their own way I think. Maybe you could sub in melody for lyrics, but just about the way I listen to music lyrics are really important.
i’m not sure this is eloquent but
i think rhythm = line, because its like the bones of a song. the rest happens within the confines of the rhythm
melody = color because it’s what brings the song to life, its the subject of the song. it colors it
tone = light because the tone of sounds and instruments defines how the melody is being heard and contextualized
Chords direct the emotion a song is trying to convey.
Root notes of the chords sort of bring a song together? Idk how to explain that
Rhythm is self explanatory Ofc it goes a lot deeper than this, as does painting and stuff. If anyone is interested in music theory, y'all can check out Adam Neely on youtube
It's so lawless. You’ll see the weirdest things and no one will care. People are so unabashedly human here. Dead expressions, exhaustion, boredom. You’ll get a coffee, someone else will get a bloody mary, the time is irrelevant. Your priorities will be tested, everything costs at least three times as much as it should, it won’t matter. I love liminal spaces.
