The installation first debuted in 1966 at the 33rd Venice Biennale—an unofficial and rather controversial showcase, as Kusama installed 1,500 reflective spheres on the grass without permission. She sold each sphere for 1,200 Lira (around 2 USD at the time) while dressed in a sash that read: 'Your Narcissism for Sale.' This bold exhibition invited viewers to confront their own reflections and question the role of narcissism in the commercialization of art. I took these photos at the Crystal Bridges museum where the spheres were scattered across a reflective pond, referencing the Greek myth of Narcissus who fell in love with his own reflection.

The myth of Narcissus in the Greek Mythology is a warning against vanity and self-love. Sometimes we get so caught up in our being, in our ego [Latin, ‘I am’], that we lose sight of the bigger picture and, as a result, pass over the beauty and bounty that is life. Designer and artist, Najma Temsoury has always been fascinated by the creation and the interior design field. Light and the perception have a major importance in her work. «what I like is to use perception to have my objects static yet in movement». This is indeed what we see in the vase ‘Narcisse’ designed for Maison Dada. Narcisse vase brings reflection to one’s eyes. Using the optical lens lets the colors, the forms and the details of the flowers to be carefully revealed, while creating a visual movement.

there’s something poetic about the expected reflection being hidden by opulent decor and this one had doors . like a portal to yourself :)

show du jour... this one must be seen to be believed honestly... atop each flying saucer-like object is a mind-bending mirror illusion that makes it seem like a tiny sculpture is rotating there but actually it is inside. i really don't know how else to describe this!! it is so impressive on like a science/technical level but also the forms themselves are really beautiful and emotional... they are described as ballerinas in a jewelry box... i really loved this!!
