i feel like sometimes i buy different types of art books because of the excitement of reading through them and actually taking everything in, getting inspiration, for research.. etc. but then they lay on my shelf for months and i never get to them. it’s silly to say this but it’s literally like browsing through pinterest or tumblr irl and even better given that they’re all specifically curated and usually offer some really cool information #physicalmediaforthewin

Yes 🙌🏼 It's not hoarding if your shit is cool, btw. My art books and antique books are not just dust-collecting junk! My husband also has a large, curated movie collection across various physical formats. He will not get rid of a title if it can't be upgraded. We don't trust streamers. We did not Marie Kondo our home during COVID like a lot of other millennials 😂

@BINGOPAJAMA you and your husband are so cool for this! im such a big “hoarder” myself- i hate throwing away gum wrappers to tell you something lol but i think having any sort of collection is super nice, especially how much the world is moving towards more and more digital stuff only. feels good to hold something with your hands and know you own it for real

additionally, not at all anxiety inducing, and you feel like you’re actually curating your taste. Coming across things you like and don’t like, instead of being fed the same thing constantly !!

I get it. I do. They're pretty, they pile, you buy more. and I understand that there's a whole different sort of feeling when buying a book. a sense of permanence and a sudden feeling of intellectualism. and book stores are among the best spaces in the world. thing is, it's all shit if you haven't read it in the end. (side note/psa: STOP buying coffee table books. no one is going to flick through your lifestyle Louis Vuitton. or your print book you got at that gallery once on that holiday. Banksy's 'Wall and Piece' is the only exception. others are simply nonsensical clutter.)

If you're a designer or a creative person, books will help you get more creative and will provide better answers. The internet is good and pinterest is great for references, but it can be very confusing sometimes when we get multiple answers for a single question and pinterest is too saturated with all sorts of ideas. You see one thing and it activates your brain but then you see another and another and another and you start losing the initial vision of what you truly wanted to do. Also, books require more effort to write and therefore it has an author's complete knowledge in it. For example, one of the architects that I really look upto is Bjarke Ingels. I've consumed a lot of his stuff on the internet, from his lectures to his podcasts and all other things of sorts. I bought his book recently and it blew my mind because the guy in the book was infinitely more impressive than the guy on the internet! The book just contains the many projects that he has done over the past few decades but on the internet, I could never understand the sheer impressiveness of his work so far. So yeah, books can be expensive, but buying a book every few months to curate your own library can be worthwhile.

yesterday i deleted my message thread with my ex. i had it archived and no reason to look at it anymore yet still found myself doing so. i think ive always wanted to keep everything of anything ever. forever. but its a step to let go completely. im learning that letting go is as important as holding on. so delete that old conversation that just sits there giving you the option to remember. you can remember other ways:) the memories wont ever be gone

honestly id recommended it just for the amount of reading material available on there. huuuuge collections curated by real people and not some algorithm. it’s technically free to browse and use (up until you hit 200 blocks- then its around 7dlls a month, which id argue isnt much since your attention isn’t the product as opposed to say, pinterest with all those lame ads) you can connect and upload pretty much anything imaginable and there are so many cool channels to browse through and learn and get inspiration from. i dont think my explanation does it justice so just check it out for yourself!
