If you're a designer or a creative person, books will help you get more creative and will provide better answers. The internet is good and pinterest is great for references, but it can be very confusing sometimes when we get multiple answers for a single question and pinterest is too saturated with all sorts of ideas. You see one thing and it activates your brain but then you see another and another and another and you start losing the initial vision of what you truly wanted to do.
Also, books require more effort to write and therefore it has an author's complete knowledge in it. For example, one of the architects that I really look upto is Bjarke Ingels. I've consumed a lot of his stuff on the internet, from his lectures to his podcasts and all other things of sorts. I bought his book recently and it blew my mind because the guy in the book was infinitely more impressive than the guy on the internet! The book just contains the many projects that he has done over the past few decades but on the internet, I could never understand the sheer impressiveness of his work so far.
So yeah, books can be expensive, but buying a book every few months to curate your own library can be worthwhile.

i feel like sometimes i buy different types of art books because of the excitement of reading through them and actually taking everything in, getting inspiration, for research.. etc. but then they lay on my shelf for months and i never get to them.
itโs silly to say this but itโs literally like browsing through pinterest or tumblr irl and even better given that theyโre all specifically curated and usually offer some really cool information

I get it. I do. They're pretty, they pile, you buy more. and I understand that there's a whole different sort of feeling when buying a book. a sense of permanence and a sudden feeling of intellectualism. and book stores are among the best spaces in the world. thing is, it's all shit if you haven't read it in the end. (side note/psa: STOP buying coffee table books. no one is going to flick through your lifestyle Louis Vuitton. or your print book you got at that gallery once on that holiday. Banksy's 'Wall and Piece' is the only exception. others are simply nonsensical clutter.)

personally i have enjoyed physical books over digital copies over the years, but I usually order my books used. 1) i want to be cheap 2) i kinda like the idea of having this passed down item with a bit of age 3) the smell of a book is enticing
And like you mentioned, spending a lot of time on my phone or Ipad makes me want to take time away from electronics and go towards a hard copy.
where i get my used books: ThriftBooks, AbeBooks, Half Priced Books, used bookstores, Goodwills, Free Little Libraries around me, and the like

Y'all ever write a word and suddenly it looks wrong? Like, the word just looks unusual. Then you cross it out and write it again but it's still the same cause the spelling is right but it looks so wrong! And so you repeat, but it remains the same and at that point you're agitated! What the actual fuck is wrong with me!
And so you just ignore it and continue writing but it still bothers you. You look in the dictionary and the spelling is still the same and the word still looks wrong and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Tl;dr I am just talking about how I was lucky to not grow up as an incel
Growing up I had no role models and so, me getting out of that alt right mysogynist pipeline was because 13 y/o me saw a video about Nirvana. A few years ago I was part of a subreddit where mostly older girls and ladies were and as I would read their comments i realised the many wrong things i was doing everyday which could end up hurting someone if they ever got together with me. A few weeks ago, i saw a reel where a girl was talking about how frustrating it was when guys ignored menial tasks like throwing socks in laundry and I realised, "oh! I do this sometimes" and ever since I saw it, anytime I ignore such things, i immediately remember that reel and all the comments on it and I just do the whole thing because I don't want to be an asshole because of my ignorance which was a result of me growing up in an environment which enabled my shitty behaviour.
I feel like I was lucky in this sense because I inadvertently came across the right places. The creators I grew up with were decent human beings. Not a single youtuber I used to watch growing up ended up being in any controversy. I watched some of them again recently and some are even making videos calling out trash behaviour.
It's also worth noting that back in 2014-15 yt was not full of alpha male shit. Everyone was just chilling and playing Minecraft. The video essays were still as great as they are now. If I was born any later, I am afraid I might've fallen down that pipeline and become a completely irredeemable pos.
