a weird little free museum over on 107th and riverside. entirely dedicated to the work of nicholas roerich, who I didn’t know that much about before. crazy guy, very fun museum. covered a lot of interests of mine, folk art, theosophy, stravinsky, buddhism, eastern orthodoxy, 20th century politics. I also just love when museums have guestbooks you can sign, I always flip through them.

one of the best house museums I’ve ever been to is nestled right into Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. on an unassuming stretch of Halsted is a little house packed to the gills with artwork, objects, and oddities belonging to the Chicago Imagist Roger Brown (1941-1997). it’s kind of hard to describe, but every nook and cranny is filled with interesting ”stuff” and you’re invited to peruse the space in a really unconventional way (open the medicine cabinets, sit in his old Mustang in the garage).
the space has been temporarily closed for a few years but I’m holding out hope they reopen it for good! and if you’re a student at SAIC, supposedly you have access to the collection for research and art activations (aka performance).

I haven't been to too many museums, spending the most time at the MET probably.. but I visited this one in Yonkers while visiting a friend. The exhibits were super well curated. There was a beautiful room with clothing related pieces and this absolutely insane room-wide work that was like a sort of life sized diorama (see link). The parts from Felix Gonzalez Torres messed me up bad but fortunately they were some of the last bits we looked at (emoji related).. She (the friend) also has a weird way of bringing out the best of me regarding this sort of thing, so I was really in a mindset to appreciate everything. It's a great museum that is deeply loved by the people who work there, strongly recommend if you ever find yourself boating up the Hudson.

I would recommend the Minneapolis Institute of Art if I hadn’t already, but I think that is a much more obvious recommendation for the twin cities this is such a cool museum located in an old church which I absolutely love, if you love religious art, I would definitely check it out they also have a really cool exhibit of anti-war art that’s been made in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

this summer, we’re starting yoga, we’re learning a new language (being bilingual is now the standard, you need to know at least three to be truly chic), we’re going to concerts just because the tickets were cheap, we’re going to museums (especially the weird ones), hitting up the local library to ask for new recommendations, whether it’s a surprise or based on past tastes, we’re painting, collecting and collaging, sewing and embroidering our clothes, re-learning the harmonica, playing chess with strangers online and at the café, we’re taking up tennis and pretending it’s not just because of challengers. the only way to find what brings you joy is to try.
