This early Wes Anderson film perfectly captures nostalgia for something that never existed. It's one of my favorites.

This movie, along with any other early Wes Anderson, is so special to me. He is able to capture these raw and truly human emotions, while also making them feel polished and stylized. Rushmore to me is one of his best, but any pre-Moonrise Kingdom is a must watch.

first saw this as a kid, but sometimes i'll be making myself breakfast and suddenly think of the scene where margot tenenbaum steps out of the bus and sees richie for the first time in years. suddenly the world is in slow motion and 'these days' by nico plays in the background. idk if it's the warm colors, the dry melancholy, the nyc brownstones... this movie will just mix with memories of my own. i also get this feeling from some agnes varda movies, especially 'les plages d'agnes'... maybe because that one is about remembering.

I think falling in love is one of the most beautiful things a human can experience. This movie makes me feel comforted, and reminds me of the art of a shared conversation between two people who admire each other upon first meeting. It's a slow-paced film that an old-school hopeless romantic, like myself, can resonate with. It feels like poetry to watch.

God it's just peak cinema and it should have won multiple oscars, grammys, tonys, pulitzer prizes, president's medals  of freedom, nobel peace prizes and literally any other award you can think of. It's hysterical and truly, truly one of the best (worst) films of all time.
