i first discovered this perfume a year ago in a small shop on the coast of lake michigan. i didn’t sample it before buying it— i bought the 3ml sample and hoped. and it was beyond my wildest dreams. over the last year i’ve rationed out that 3ml praying that i’d find the perfume again— totally forgetting it’s 2025 and i have google. anyway, this is a long way of saying i now have 30ml and a happy soul. everyone should smell like this. the world would be better if we all smelled like burning at the stake and roses

I first bought the sample size last November, and loved it so much that I recently dropped the $50 to order the next size up— it’s one of the most magical fragrances I’ve ever had the pleasure to wear. On first smell, it smells like a freshwater stream through the woods, or the smell of the earth after rain. Itā€˜s very aquatic and ozonic, but on the dry down it transforms into something sweet and floral. I genuinely can’t recommend this scent and the perfumery enough :)

it all started with my aunt who has a friend that works at bloomingdale’s and contrabands bottle of testers and pass it on to her to do the trafficking. i’m talking niche fancy stuff for $100 or less. that’s how i ended up with an incredible collection and an addiction that i’m not proud of… but once you get into perfume, it’s like a whole universe unveils in front of your eyes (nose) and there is so much to experience, so much to taste, so much to learn about yourself, your brain and the strangeness of human olfaction. and the association of smell and memory is one of my favorite things, every single perfume i have triggers memories and feelings in a very deep and intense way. i have no interest in having a ā€œsignature scentā€, life is too short. hop on!

Do you ever smell a certain scent and it reminds you of a person, time, or place? For example, when I smell pink sugar it reminds me of the middle school locker room after walking the mile. I love how a smell could be a bookmark in your life. So why not make it a beautiful scent that one day you will probably smell and think, ā€œwhat was I thinking?ā€ Recently I’ve been into this perfume by Andrea Maack that smells like harvested potatoes in Iceland. Another one from room 1015 with interesting notes of carrot seeds, jasmine, and musk. Lastly, my most recent purchase is from Villa Erbatium and smells like the inside of a refrigerated flower shop - cut stems, cool air, cellophane wrapping and all.

all of mansour’s works are gorgeous and so beautifully representative of the palestinian condition (pre and post-intifada) but there’s something about 1985’s ā€hopeā€ that’s always stuck with me, much like 1993’s ā€œthe nazareneā€ (also attached). i cannot recommend looking further into mansour’s works enough. follow him on instagram @/sliman.mansour šŸ•Šļø
