so I have been seeing them EVERYWHERE, and I still haven’t fallen into the trap yet. I did however fall for the whole Sonny Angel trap and now I have multiple dupes because i literally kept accidentally buying fakes (hate you eBay).
like has my frontal lobe developed lol? or have I just not financially recovered from my fake Sonny angels?

they are these collectable little guys a lot of ppl attach to purses and such that have become a huge status symbol seemingly out of the blue. they have also gotten a bad rap since they are 1) lowkey kinda ugly and 2) specifically designed to make u spend money when u def dont need them. like it is a capitalism trap fs especially since the blind box model is kinda leaning towards this "gambling for children" thing which is fucked up. in my brain the response reminds me a lot of the stanley cup craze with ppl going out of their way to get as many varieties as possible and go crazy on release days with phsyical violence at stores and such. also apparently a lot of ppl are freaking out and thinking they are demonic either bc of idk satanism and or the doll's theoretical resemblance to an ancient mesopotamian demon called pazuzu which is a whole other thing i had to google so idk.
anyway here is this one thread post this ask reminded me of.

Sonny Angels have really blown up over the last few years but I tell you I’ve been on the Sonny train since like 2016. Don’t pay $25 or more for one. There are many places you can get them for less than $15. They’re so cute and honestly just feel really good to hold and roll around in your hand like a lucky object or something. I swear if you carry one around with you in your bag, they 100% protect your energy and bring good luck.

✨the first I ever heard of Labubu was the whole "propaganda I'm not falling for" trend and for a hot minute I was convinced that some company started the trend as a weird reverse psychology way of advertising their collectables
but really I mean they're just little blind box collectibles. def not the first of their kind. they're cute, just way too overhyped right now. I gotta say, this is one of the more confusing trends I've seen recently though 😭 no clue why this of all things ended up blowing up so much
