About 70% of my sense of humor was crystallized after watching this masterpiece. My Latino ass family references this all the time when we’re together. Jack Black’s best role. Get that corn out of my face.
“tina you fat lard, come get some dinner!” i can’t explain how exactly this movie defined me without doing an extreme self-character study, but it has made me extremely unfunny. i saw this at eleven years old, and immediately my takeaway was “cringe and quirky comedy is paramount; i devote my life to you.” now after seeing much funnier movies, i’m arguably a lot funnier (thank god), but this is still one of my favorites. still so funny in ways i could never be.
i love this movie with my whole being. it played a huge part in developing my sense of humor, and it always brings me comfort. it’s familiar, and it reminds me of my hometown in some ways. i had a pink princess tv when i was a kid, and i remember watching it on that for several nights in a row until i changed it to something else, but i always returned to it eventually. i can quote it like the script is written on the palm of my hand, and hearing “we’re going to be friends” by the white stripes always makes me think of those intro credits with the plates of food. so much love for this movie. (aforementioned tv pictured here)
I’ll never forget the amount of laughter and energy in that theater. All the jokes hit and the crowd was there for them. I can’t rewatch that movie now because it wouldn’t be the same as when I saw it in the theater.
The cashier at the liquor store said this to me and I’ve never heard anybody say it before….I love the little difference between the two phrases which I can’t articulate quite yet…..more on this at 11. I’m gonna start saying this now. Thank you liquor store man.
