Xanadu is just the best bad movie. Eternal Sunshine is perfect. I cry every time I watch it. Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey are phenomenal. Phantom Thread made me feel things I’ve never felt before. It was enchanting. The French Dispatch is just awesome. I love Wes Anderson and this is my favorite of his films. I think it’s flawless.

1. The Three Caballeros (1945) i’m a big animation nerd, and i truly believe that this is visually one of the most creative and beautiful animated films ever. i know there’s not really much of a “plot,” but i love how anarchical the flow of the movie is, disney has not and will never make anything like it again. the musical sequences/song numbers are so much fun and joaoaqin garay and josé oliveira give amazing performances as panchito and josé carioca 2. Who Framed Roger Rabbit this was my #1 favorite for the longest time, and it’s now a *very* close second. this movie is just the epitome of expertly crafted film making on so many different levels, from the writing, directing, acting, practical effects, and animation. it’s a perfect homage and combination to two of my favorite film eras, old film noir and the golden age of animation. richard william’s animation direction is also mindblowingly brilliant; so many insane shots in this movie that i know were almost impossible to animate. 3. A Clockwork Orange i am aware that this is a starkly different pick from my first two, lmao. but this is genuinely such a fascinating film that speaks to me on so many levels. malcom mcdowell truly gives a performance of a lifetime, and the intentional setting of 60’s/70’s brutalist futurism is genuinely so iconic. obviously kubrick’s direction and camera work is also genius, don’t have much to add there. i don’t necessarily agree with every point this film tried to get across, but the question if even the worst people in our society deserve the autonomy to choose between right and wrong is so fascinating. 4. Amadeus perfect movie from beginning to end in my opinion. it is a master class in character writing, i can never get over how salieri and mozart are THE perfect character foils of eachother. the opera segments in this film are so beautifully shot, designed, and choreographe. this film is responsible for me genuinely falling in love with opera, where i now shoot/film my university’s operas as a consistent favorite gig of mine (and hope to professionally shoot operas as a part of my career in the future).

without a sense of the genres you like here are four movies I will never forget 1. I AM LOVE - gorgeous poetic sexy drama with the best score 2. DR. NO - if you’ve never seen the first bond film, it also happens to be one of the best. 3. WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY - a charming, moving and very funny movie about the death of a loved one. 4. ATONEMENT - a perfect book and a perfect movie of the book. The score alone is just a masterpiece.

Be like a woman diagnosed with hysteria in the 18th century. Visit the sea and let it restore your spirit. Drove to the Nubble Lighthouse at 6 in the morning. I brought my journal and wrote two pages sitting on rocks and breathing in the salty air. I feel awake, alive, free, and ready for the rest of the day. Don’t underestimate the healing power of Mother Nature. She is here for us when we treat her with love.

I am partial to abstraction but I wanna highlight a more contemporary representational painter. Mark Tennant‘s work is like painted film photography. His use of light and shadow, the subject matter, just so unique and stunning.
