An artist who stood by his philosophies first and foremost, and whose work somehow remains one of the strongest case studies we have about how creativity can be a tool against fascisim. Life changing to see in person, phone screens do not do them justice

dadaist hans arp once said ā€œwhat arrogance is concealed in perfection? why struggle for purity in position when they can never be attained? the law of chance, which embraces all other laws and is as unfathomable as the depth from which all life arises can only be comprehended by a complete surrender to the unconscious.ā€ and he’s right, some of the very best art i’ve made has been by complete accident. my favorite thing to see when i look at a painting is the blending of paint into forms, no brush stroke is like the one before it, the paint combines into new shades that weren’t there previously, with each smear something new emerges. i love surprising uses of color where you wouldn’t expect them to be, you can imagine the idea springing forth to the artist while they’re painting away on the canvas.. or maybe it was accidental? maybe they put blue where they meant to put green? a mistake? but now that it’s blue, it’s genius!
i’d like to approach more than just art with this way or thinking. it would lead to a lot less disappointment and a lot more excitement. 🪓

i feel like it’s this constant debate but the thing is? there’s millions of artists/musicians/etc out there, so i find when you want to hold on so tightly to someone, you’re closing yourself off from other artists that could be similar or way cooler but not a terrible person obviously there’s a distinction between a faux pas, mistakes before growth, or being deeply consistently horrible, but i absolutely think that’s a distinction worth making… we only have so much time on this earth, and our time to consume art and music and film and literature is fleeting, so i’d rather spend it on the works of people who have earnestly made the world a more beautiful place and exploring art to find those !

A website with a collection of screengrabs from nearly every movie you could think of, and you can sort by film title, director, cinematographer, year, genre, country, etc. Great for visual references for lookbooks, or just to discover a new film you might be interested in seeing!
I've attached one of my favorite stills, a great moment from Chungking Express (Dir. Wong Kar-Wai, 1994).

Just going out and picking up any kind of used physical media (books, CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes) makes the archivist in me happy, like I’m preserving somebody else’s story/ enjoyment of something
My personal favorite thing is VHS tapes, I’ve got a decent collection (all thrifted) and they’re usually the cheapest things offered
