I’m not sure why, I guess things ending are sad. Here’s a self portrait I made in charcoal. The proportions are wonky but it kinda looks like me!

You took classes and picked up some skills. Now the challenge is being an artist. Set a couple of goals. Draw friends and family. Copy some known great charcoal pieces (Peter Falk, TV's Columbo was a master) Then set more goals. Can they sell? Be good gifts? Art is great for yourself, but that part of yourself needs to see the world.

Also just want to add as someone who has moved art around for others. Charcoal, and even pastels for color pieces, is about the gesture more so than the proportions. You'll get to where you know a piece is going to be awesome once you get those first few strokes down on parchment. Be grand or be subdued, never aim for something in between. The smirk and the neckline in this particular piece sets such a mood.

Proportions don’t really matter when intentional strokes, thoughtful lines and texture are shining through beautifully! I hope you continue creating!

@GLOMBROSKI thank you! The teacher stopped me from putting details in the eyes because they were actually in shadow - which is much easier than drawing eyes anyway

That's beautiful and love the depth in your self portrait. I'm also finishing a 5 week art class and I'm like damn how do i make this a normal weekly thing for myself but also I'm going to miss the company 😭 I just want it to continue

@EATGRAEPS thank you! I found charcoal much more intuitive than pencils. It’s so messy though!

I’ve been in a deep tangle with the assignments from my drawing class recently. I think it’s mainly because I hate shading and doing entire pieces in pencil. But also it’s because I feel really stifled when I have to follow stricter guidelines in creative tasks. However, I just finished this one point perspective drawing of an imaginary landscape and I kinda like it! I like the surreal elements I was able to weave in despite having a specific criteria I had to meet overall. Learning to love my art even when it’s not exactly what I planned on making is a process.

This is for my art class this quarter but being your own subject is quite intimate ! It’s interesting to explore the feelings that come with recreating your own face. Try it !

The occupation persists, the oppression persists, the torture persists. The occupiers are psychotic and their work is never finished. People who’ve paid attention won’t be surprised by this photo from Gaza.

I’m 50, I say because that makes me unusual in this context. I paid [redacted] for a ticket to the Eras Tour after listening to tswift for 3 weeks, and it was worth it. In second grade my teacher gave kids birthday spankings over her knee, and in sixth grade my teacher told my mom I hadn’t blossomed yet. I’m a good friend, mostly to people on the internet. I’m good at conversing with strangers. I’m usually the oldest person at the show but don’t feel like it. I’m good at being helpful. I’m sarcastic and funny and make myself laugh. I’m a good graphic designer and a conscientious driver. I’m a good photographer and I can successfully follow recipes. I don’t use my Peloton enough. I did a lot of caregiving for my mom for several years, and we enjoyed spending time together even if it was mostly in waiting rooms and my car. The fastest I ever ran a mile was eight minutes and six seconds. I drove the same car for 20 years and then replaced it with another one. I enjoy tipping, giving money to people on the street and Disneyland. I am a fan of baseball, Formula 1 racing and the Criterion Channel. I solve about 80% of New York Times crosswords. I take Prozac and Wellbutrin, and take Trazodone to sleep through the night. I wish I had a glassed in solarium so I could sleep in it on rainy nights. I would like to have a pet cat and a garage. I could happily live eating only cereal and fruit. I overshare on the internet and undershare elsewhere. ✌️💛
