saw it some years back and it quickly became my favorite film. it's a romantic/wistful/feelgood piece that follows an eccentric tour guide around his daily life. he speaks in prose about beauty and being. every time I watch it, my shoulders drop a little~

This is my favorite movie of all time. It gives me a certain sense of hope every time I watch. Its the perfect character study. I feel like we see just enough of Speed to connect with and root for him while also seeing just too much to the point you get concerned and almost slightly appalled. Its just perfection. Theres such a comfort in the way its shot. And the dialogue is just incredible. It is the human condition explained perfectly in 76 minutes.

There's tons of movies that I think are a must-see (Tampopo, Roman Holiday, Moonlight, Amelie etc.) and trying to recommend any made me realise how much I love watching films... but I'd start with this one. It's about Living, with a capital T, and it's got plot, beautiful scenery etc. I also think it's a straightforward way to see what films do versus documentaries or other visual media. I first saw it as a bored volunteer at a film festival, killing time between two other movies I really wanted to see instead hahaha go in with zero expectations.

Directed by Mike Mills & starring Ewan McGregor, MΓ©lanie Laurent, and Christopher Plummer-- I think of this movie often & feel like it profoundly changed me. It's a poignant story about a man falling in love after his father, who came out as gay late in life, passes away. It's about grief and love, about joy, loneliness, and connection...then how all of those emotions intercede and collide with the events in one's life to inform who we are now and who we are becoming... For me, this film is beautiful, transcendent catharsis. Consume away! (& if you like it, I also like C'mon, C'mon by the same director)

if you have to apartment hop at all (as is the way of this wretched modern life) get one of these. you'll use it maybe once a year and it will be your absolute favorite possession.
