on new year’s eve, my dad had a major cardiac event, and was in the hospital for nearly the entire month of january. he’s continuing to deal with the repercussions of the physical and emotional trauma he experienced during his hospital stay. my dad has been a musician for over forty years. a few months ago, he told me he wasn’t feeling connected to music anymore. he wasn’t feeling connected to anything. it made me sad to hear, but i also completely understood why he felt that way after everything that happened. well, he and i are happy to announce that he recently released a new electronic/ambient album! if you’re into the berlin school style of music, you’ll like this album. :) i’m so glad he’s making music again. đŸ€

I enjoy listening to my dad’s favorite music from when he was a teenager. Imagining him listening to all his favorite hair metal bands on a cassette player, reveling in his teenage angst makes me feel closer to him.

maybe they’re a partner, maybe they’re a friend, maybe they’re a family member. regardless of the type of relationship, you know that this person isn’t good for you. it doesn’t even have to be because they’re abusive — maybe there’s just something about this connection that brings you stress. maybe your body is trying to tell you. why does your stomach hurt before and after you see them? you know you need to let this person go, but there’s a part of you who doesn’t want to. you’ve gotten used to them being in your life, and you can’t imagine a life without them. you want to only remember the good moments. you want to believe that things will be *all good* again. but were they ever *all good*? this person is never going to be the idealized version you’ve created in your head. ending the connection will hurt, but you’re already hurting yourself by staying in it.

i have a huge band tee collection, but these are the ones i wear the most! we have depeche mode, peter gabriel, darkswoon (a friend of mine from pdx), violentene (more friends of mine, from ottawa), pink floyd, and nation of language! the pink floyd one is actually my dad’s shirt that i “borrowed” over ten years ago
lol. that one’s definitely the coolest! ✹ i usually wear it as a nightshirt since it’s pretty big on me.
