This movie is great! Watched it for my government class for a section about how the Media influences public policy. Pacino is in his full 90s glory (he is screaming SOOOO much in this film) but it works. Pacino's portrayl of Lowell Bergman was a fine performance, and Russel Crowe's potrayal of the conflicted and tempermental Big Tobacco whistleblower Dr. Jeffery Wigand brought so much suspense and heart to the film. You really feel for Wigand as he goes up against the largest and (at the time) most powerful corporations in America. Lowell and Wigand lose almost everything and are put through the wringer and the movie doesn't decide to wrap everything up neatly, but the story is satisfying nonetheless. Give it a watch!

I would die for Michael Mann; it's his slick and quick pacing, his ability to build these characters yearning for romance underneath a steel professionalism, it's the digital shot, the neon violence, the line readings, what should be tacky becomes exceptional and transcendent. You can't go wrong with this movie. I saw it at Metrograph on the big screen and it is easily the best first watch of the year for me.

two ex cons looking to rebuild their lives ~ always been a fan of both pacino & hackman, somehow this film slipped under my radar until now. both actors are amazing and have crazy energy in it, theres these really long takes throughout of the film and you really feel the energy of their weird friendship, really funny, intense, tragic
