this is my new public journal. hi everyone! today i’m going to talk about how people treat public spaces like it’s their home. i volunteer at a center that’s pretty chill and not that big. & it’s a very community oriented space. tv, couch, chairs and tables, microwave, fridge, bathroom (but no stove or anything). but there are just some people who still don’t understand that it’s a PUBLIC space and do things like - take off their shoes AND SOCKS (ew!) - rolling around on the floor - fall asleep / take up the WHOLE COUCH TO FALL ASLEEP and this is just to name a few!! it just makes my blood boil. if i was new and i saw someone just toes out and on the floor i wouldn’t come back. ever. so this is my perfectly unhinged rant please treat public spaces with respect!

That’s right. You have to be the one to open your home up to strangers. clean out the basement, the garage, the fucking kitchen man, your yard with all the bikes fuck it — make space for your community and it’s music. Enough of this “i wish there was somewhere i could see diy shows :(“ BITCH YOU ARE THE SOMEWHERE. Living in a diy venue for a year now has taught me that spaces like this do no exist on accident. We are intentional, head strong, and determined to make a community worth gathering. Yeah support artists and music, but support local diy spaces. If you always dreamed of seeing MCR in a New Jersey basement or Minor Threat in a backyard, you’re wasting energy on nostalgia when it could be reality. You don’t even have to do it all the time, quarterly, monthly, weekly, it doesn’t matter just invite your friends, strangers, neighbors into your house and throw a fucking rager. To all my fellow diy venues, i love you. Continue partying as long as you can. Especially if you’re a queer space and NOTAFLOF. You fucking rock.

Sometimes I need somewhere to land with my notebook and pen, a place to consolidate my outstretched self. My impulse has often led me to areas with verve, culture, and snappy people living impressively. But lately I've been seeking out the mundane and forgettable spots instead. There's a local grocery with an ugly in-store coffee nook that I like. There, wedged between a display for gaudy coffee mugs, pharmacy bandages, and closeout items, all the beauty and magic is forced to come from within.

dont know how I’ll do this but I’m determined It will Work. If you steal this- Idgaf , the world needs more community care will include; - free areas to sit/work for a few hours (New York public libraries being closed struck a nerve in me, you shouldn’t have to spend $$$ on coffee and food to write or read or work) - workshops/classes/events on art, language, etc (sports is huge in my area and the arts lack sm funding/spaces for ppl to experiment without insane up charges) - local gardening/working with vendors to reduce food waste and insecurity in the area - plenty of other far fetched ideas that I WILL MAKE HAPPEN

it was really dark and i had randomly left the house because i needed to get away. i remember asking for a sign and i saw this. i did just stand there for a minute looking at it. it’s not a very profound picture but i always remember it.
