So of course if you’ve never been, do the touristy things too like Times Square and the monuments and be unapologetic about it, don’t let anyone judge you for having fun just because you’re a tourist. Also if you do the Empire State Building it tends to be cheaper after sunset, there are no lines, and it’s nice to be up with way fewer people. Oh my gosh and I love the Brooklyn bridge actually, walk the Brooklyn bridge. For pizza, I posted about it recently but L’Industrie has some great pizza by the slice, they have two locations now. My favorite slice is the fig jam and bacon🤤 For the swifties the newer location is not too far from Cornelia stšŸ’€ In the fidi area there’s a small coffee shop, Simpl, on Nassau. It’s originally a Ukrainian brand so they have a Ukrainian drink called a raf, or they have these amazing strawberry lattes and matchas. The most important part though? GET A CARDAMOM BUN. I became obsessed with them the first time I had one. Go to the Met. Literally one of my favorite museums, it’s so big and there’s so much to see, there are new exhibits throughout the year. The Brooklyn botanical garden is pretty and there are plenty of free days throughout the year. Chinatown!!! I am a huge fan of Chinatown in NYC, so many good food options (I’m very food motivated when I travel if you haven’t noticed lol). There are dim sum places, ice cream, boba, so many things all next door to each other. Honestly, you could also find plenty of cheap souvenirs for people lol.

i do think anyone visiting NYC for the first time should go to times square and a musical, empire state building etc just for the novelty of it, and here are some other things that may be fun! (also search ā€œnew yorkā€/ā€œnycā€ on pi.fyi, i did it for ā€œlondonā€ and found a lot of cool stuff!) - definitely go to moma or the met! also the guggenheim has an amazing jenny holzer exhibit on until sept 29. skip amnh! - NYPL Polonsky Exhibition - everything from the original winnie the pooh to a beautiful mini leaf-shaped Quran! (you could get coffee, go to the whitney then walk the high line and take the subway to the NYPL main branch for the exhibit!) - staten island ferry in the afternoon - to see the statue of liberty! however, do NOT go during rush hour (6-9:30AM and 3-8PM) it sucks for locals when tourists add to the crowd during that time and the boats will be crowded enough with commuters that the experience sucks for you also lol - picnic in central park! you could do lunch, or broad nosh bagels is like a block away from the 59th st station, sometimes if i’m around in the morning, i get breakfast from there and eat it in the park. at least have a bagel at some point - cool bookstores: the strand, p&t knitwear, housing works (soho) enjoy your visit!! :)

- The grocery store franchise closest to you is possibly overcharging, so sometimes groceries become a sort of Halloween style I buy fruit from here, pantry things from here, etc etc - Lots of free things to do with a library card!! so many museums have discounted / free admission, the Met for example allows you to do a suggested donation when showing a library card - Obvious but tap water is šŸ¤ŒšŸ»šŸ¤ŒšŸ»šŸ¤ŒšŸ» no need to buy fancy water when going out to eat (and on this note I always carry around a reusable water bottle and one of those little electric fans bc the temperature outside never matches the subway) - There is no greater joy than getting a blanket and a book and people watching on Sheep Meadow/the Mall/ at any park - Explore the other boroughs!! - It’s so cliche but you can stumble upon so many fun restaurants, events, bars, shops, concerts, museums, etc etc by just strolling around - In tandem with the above I sometimes check the Time Out NY website, the New York Times daily newsletter, New York Magazine. The New Yorker, etc for inspiration and info about things going on - Citymapper is your bff for navigating the subway/bus/transit/walking/etc and is great with keeping you posted on any delays - On this note also always check an MTA app or citymapper etc to see if trains are running, can save you time and sanity - So many free concerts and events at places like the 92nd Street Y, in Bryant Park, SummerStage in Central Park - If you like TV you can go to tapings of shows or get paid to be part of the studio audience on websites like 1iota or Shadow Casting and Productions - Also can get lots of free things from pop ups that different brands host throughout the city, my roommate usually finds them on instagram - Join the free rewards program of your favorite coffee place / grocery store/ etc

I know I’ve ranted about AI before but! Just saw another writer who was doing peer reviews as she was writing chapters with another person; until she found out the other person was using AI for their NOVEL! Blows my mind. She removed this person from her document and sent her a kind but straightforward message about how she won’t be working with her going forward due to the AI usage. I feel like using it for novel writing is one of the most insane uses because #1 this person told me that the AI generated parts of the work weren’t even as good as the other person’s normal writing was. #2 let’s say no one noticed and you published with the AI work, so you would be okay if the book did well but it wasn’t even truly your writing that people would be praising?? Not to mention of course the morality and environmental impact. Also, I was shopping around today for a custom leather stamp to start stamping the leather journal covers I make. Thought I found someone to make it until they said to send the logo file over and they’ll send back AI created renderings of a mockup to approve. Now I am starting the search all overšŸ™ƒ

Today was one of those bad days where it causes a headache and you feel exhausted from everything, but somehow a nice long walk outside made things seem a little better. Fresh air and thinking or daydreaming while listening to the sounds of outside. I sometimes find myself taking for granted the place that I live, I work or I’m too tired and I use that as an excuse to not go outside more. Yet every time I get the chance to spend the time outside, I can’t say I ever regret it. I’m going to make it a goal for myself to try and take a walk outside at least a few times a week.
