I went to the doctors office recently about a knee I screwed up dancing at sixflags grad bash, but this beautiful girl walked in with a few other people. She had this cool short blue hair and her outfit was honestly much better thought out compared to the other people she was with. I didn't want to stare or anything, but I noticed her wispering to the person beside her and typing away at her phone. I didn't really pay any mind and I went along with my day afterwards, but as I got to the car it turns out that girl was a friend of my sister in middle school! She somehow recognized me and was texting my sister. I was able to compliment her look through my sister (she looked like chloe from life is strange) and she seemed to really appreciate it!! It was a pretty good day especially since I went to goodwill bins and had an amazing meal + milkshake at Dennys with my sister beforehand :) Sometimes you're just noticed!

I was at the bar and my friend was telling me about this girl that her friend had a crush on and the description sounded vaguely familiar so I asked them to show me her Instagram and she pulled it up and put it on the table. I scrolled through to find a good picture and said “yes I do know her she’s-…right there” and I looked up and she was running towards me and I screamed her name and we hugged and made a huge scene. Definitely not slick wingman wise but I couldn’t help it because of how much of a coincidence it was.
This girl was constantly on tour up and down the east coast and never in town really so we barely saw each other but always had a good time whenever we did. It was so random and felt cosmic. I introduced her to my friends and she hung out for a bit. Someone’s far away, “unattainable” Instagram crush popping up at the table, as soon shes brought up. It was so cool, I’ll never forget it.

Guy 1: wore his long hair in a braid one day, danced just while goofing off and he somehow made it look super attractive (reader: he can barely dance), posted a photo of himself “snowboarding” down a volcano during winter break, recruited me for his short film project that involved several takes at the end of my character hugging his character 🙈 (we’re married now)
Guy 2: wore a suit to a wedding (this man normally wore cargo shorts and tshirts he’d probably owned for a decade, which there’s nothing wrong with it was just a particularly stark difference lol)
Guy 3: merely made silent eye contact a few moments longer than usual while smiling 🫠
Girl 1: longtime friend but hadn’t seen her face in a while due to long distance and her rarely posting pictures of herself anywhere—she sent me some selfies and i was dazzled ✨
Girl 2: already thought she was beautiful and interesting but had a real “oh no” moment when her eyes lit up as she spoke passionately about her favorite Victorian novel (also when she recalled exactly where an obscure quote from an academic journal had come from, inCLUDING the year of publication 🤯)

Last year, I made a new acquaintance at a house show & learned that she DJ'd on the side! She invited me to a party that she was DJ'ing a few weeks (?) later, so I drove to the address. Apparently it was a random warehouse space in downtown Orlando. There was a huge skateboard ramp in there and t-shirt printing supplies in the back, I think? Watching her play was really fun. At one point she even hooked up a Nintendo D.S. and made a beat on one of the games!! The parking situation downtown is confusing, so I ended up parking my car in front of the church next door while their nighttime service was going on. The lot was full of other cars and there was no signage for towing, so I figured it was fine. There was also a fence around the parking lot, but I didn't notice it had a gate until I came out of the party and found my car sitting alone, locked inside. I called the church and the nice man on the other end said I could pick it up in the morning, so I Uber'd home. The next day, I came to pick up my car and had to wait about half an hour for the church man to get there. As I was standing there, wearing an outfit that was hardly goth at all, this random guy on the street told me: "I just gotta say, I love your gothic style. I ain't gonna lie, baby, you're gorgeous. I'm sure you got a girlfriend though, right? Okay, well, remember me!" Somehow he clocked me as queer and hit on me at the same time. I decided to wait indoors after that. Eventually I did get my car back, but everything that happened in those 12 hours felt so random.

I have made an effort to return to using the internet like I did when I was a kid: strictly using the computer for social media, youtube, and games. My phone is purely used for music and reading or art. I have gone from a 9 hour average of rotting on social media, to a 3 hour average of reading and listening to music per day. I didn't always have such a long screentime but since summer started I realized I was really wasting my life on my phone instead of enjoying summer. Even though social situations drain me, I have encouraged myself to go out more often and take the opprotunity to socialize. Now, it's not like this has solved all my problems, but the best thigns that have from it were being able to focus on new ways to bust boredom, like playing my dads bass and the piano a little bit. I also spent more time actualyl playing games with my friends too, which isnt productive really, but isnt something I regret either. Really the main thing this achived wasn't making me more productive or happier, but allowing me to focus on things I like and making me slightly more creative. It's just a better opprotunity to spend my time more wisely and avoid regret.
