love island is infuriating this year. the cast is full of Andrew Tate followers, influencers who only seem to be there to build their brand (in other words, brands pretending to be islanders), and scrappy doo. half of the islanders are on strategy island, the other half are on forced friendship island. people who seem genuine keep getting voted off. people who should've left weeks ago are still here because of weird alliances, terrible advice, and bad voting decisions by the islanders and the public. i’m used to watching the hottest women ever ā„¢ sabotage their happiness for weird men. i’m used to seeing forced friendships. i’m used to watching couples who wouldnt work on the outside ride it out in hopes of a bombshell. but there’s too much built up tension because everyone is hyper aware they’re on a reality tv series. they are too worried about being disliked. they are hyper aware of the formulas that worked for past seasons, and have mistakenly decided imitation is the way to win 100k— in cash or followers. they miscalculated: love island is a show that rewards authenticity. the most iconic islanders — Maura, mollie may, Camilla, the ppg, Ekin-su, Rob, even Kem (ew) — are iconic because they chose to be themselves, even when it meant pissing off other islanders, dividing the audience, and sending the producers into a panic. It’s day 27 (???) and I care for none of the islanders besides Amaya. Amaya, who clearly wants to find love without sacrificing her morals. Amaya, who wants to find love without idealizing her other islanders. Amaya, who wants to find love without forcing the premise to fit her ideals. my winner.

*spoilers for up to ep 18* genuinely have no one to talk about this with but what is love island US on 😭😭 genuinely do not understand the point of having the audience vote for people that the contestants must choose to vote off like…it’s actively making it impossible for people to make connections cause they keep getting split up. charlie anddd hannah are gone (i feel sooo bad for her), and then jeremiah right after he got out of the toxic situation like im so maddddddd episode 18 just pissed me right off like no one’s able to make an actual connection cause their partners just keep getting voted off basically 😭😭 also WHY is huda still there come on yall we cannot be watching the same show and ending up with jeremiah gone and huda still there…im so pressed

i have been a long-time watcher of this ridiculous show, and LI UK combined with Ru Paul's Drag Race really helped me get through covid times in 2020/21 in general. this summer, i have been watching the USA franchise on the urging of a friend. it's CRAZY and chaotic and entertaining, and for a while nothing seemed to be happening in the UK version in comparison. But i've come to realize the USA version genuinely stresses me out. i'm american, but i hate the way americans act and communicate as a generalized/homogeneous whole. i love the brits and their self-deprecating, cultural-specific gender expectations and slower mode of moving. it's still toxic ofc but i can distance myself from it and tell myself i will not encounter men like this because they have a way different accent (pleasant delusion!).....LI UK, you are my first true reality tv love, and i'm sorry i ever doubted you

Boring as hell episode. Weird energy In that pointless challenge. U can tell producers are not sure what to do about Ciera.. literally only saving grace was Amaya and Bryan hitting it off and hopefully growing that connection.

Also runs a substack: https://aridrennen.substack.com/ ---- ***note: I chose news based on how reliable and biased I view these outlets or podcasts after 5+ years professionally watching and researching the news and politics. I chose outlets that are generally reliable, unbiased, or had a pro-democracy bias. Podcasts were given more leeway since most podcasts are entertainment AND news. By reliable, I considered whether reports are factual and whether the writing was high quality (Generally free from typos/grammatical errors, not written by AI, etc). I also considered outlets' reputation among journalists (Have they had any scandals? If yes, how did they take accountability for said scandal? Have they won awards? Which awards? Do reputable journalists recommend them? ). For bias, I considered whether outlets have a tendency to a) editorialize reports and b) privilege anti-democratic perspectives. I also considered global and historical context. While "ranking" sites like allsides or ground news may say x outlet is very left wing, how would a comparable democracy view this outlet.Ā

i live in a city with a bunch of rats so when I am walking about at night I play rat count. Whenever I see a rat I add a tally to my notes app and say ā€œrat countā€. you can play however you like for as long as you like, as long as you don’t lie about your rat count. Estimations are okay, because sometimes you see a trash bag full of rats and you have no way of counting that. probably. You can even play with friends, as a bonding activity. You could even add a prize, like whoever sees the most rats this month gets a little yogurt or pizza treat. and it never has to end. rat count can be forever.
