Our trip to LA was the culmination of so many things for us that we had only dreamt about, truly one for the books, and probably the happiest we had ever been. Sometime during the trip we started referring to it as our 10-year friendship anniversary celebration. Things started falling apart shortly after. But I'll always cherish those 4 days.

i went frolicking for two weeks in Copenhagen, Berlin, etc with some friends who live there and while the bonding was magnifique, and the dancingdrugsenergy unlike anything America could begin to offer, i can't adequately express the elation felt on the journey home. tasting California summer produce, driving my gas guzzler around town, snuggling into my own bed, spending quality time with my friends and family, dropping back into a life i'm so proud to have built over the past few years... nothing beats it. i'm so happy to be home and so grateful i'm no longer frantic to escape it. maybe it sometimes takes time away to appreciate the grass can be green wherever you plant your feet <33 (also i haven't been posting on here bc the app refuses to work on my phone... help??)

so there were lots of nice moments!! among my favorites: • saw a great movie at my friend’s favorite and very cool theater • enjoyed the presence of other writers during an hour of work on our projects • explored a quirky used bookstore • had several late night, falling-asleep-as-you’re-speaking chats with my friend of 26 years, just as we’ve always done • laughed hard • friend beat me to saying “i love you” and i realized how often i’m the first to say it in relationships/interactions and hearing it offered (instead of automatically returned) helped balm something i didn’t know was wounded • proved to myself that even though i can never outrun my OCD, i can do more alongside it than i thought i could

As the only true third spaces left in a world where you can hardly leave your house without having to spend money, supporting and utilizing these public services has become more necessary than ever. People don't realize just how many free services are offered by their local branches. From workshops, to free access to online classes and audiobooks, museum passes, movie nights, private study rooms, equipment available to borrow, community building – it's so much more than just borrowing books (which is also cool, btw). Also a great alternative to loitering at a coffee shop.

You can connect the app to any of your existing public library cards for free e-books and audiobooks. I fell in love with audiobooks in 2023. They make time fly on my long subway commutes, and help me nourish my brain during mindless tasks. I used to hit my monthly Spotify limit and have to wait a whole month to finish my book. It was equally frustrating to realize halfway through a book that I actually hated it and had no desire to finish it. Discovering Libby has been a game changer, in a low-commitment & high-reward type of way.
