I consistently drive like that. 10 or 5 below the speed limit. Why is that a problem? Why would you feel the need to endanger yourself and the other driver in the first place?

@JOE_M_MILLER you really should go close to the speed limit, 5 is arguably ok but 10 and lower is pushing it. the speed limit is set at that for your safety and you should follow it for your sake and others on the road. maintaining an appropriate following distance is a different thing which i admit i am not proud of for not doing all the time. you should really be going the speed limit more often than not

@JOE_M_MILLER it's really not safe for yourself or other drivers to go that much under the speed limit unless there's a specific reason, like heavy rain or ice on the roads. i was taught in driver's ed that, while you shouldn't speed, it's very very important to maintain a speed that matches the flow of traffic. if no one's around, going slower than the speed limit is fine, but most of the time you should be going at at least within a handful of mph of the speed limit

@DRACULA I mean, I think it just depends on your city and what roads you’re on. probably over 95% of the time I spend driving, the speed limit is 30 MPH. If I’m going 20, I don’t think that’s so bad. Then, for the rare time I’m on the highway, If I’m in the slowest lane going 50 instead of 60, other drivers just go around me. No big deal. I get it if it’s like an interstate exit or a darkened country road, but that’s not my situation. also: driving too slow is barely dangerous compared to tailing someone. So what, you have to drive a little slower, and now you’re going to threaten me with a car accident? It’s not even close to the same thing.
@JOE_M_MILLER It WAS a two lane road, not a highway. I repeat that I do not support tailgating, especially someone riding a mere foot or two from a bumper, which I never do. I am a conscientious driver so I was tailgating at about 1 car length behind instead of the 2-4 car lengths I usually like to maintain. Yes I agree with you that tailgating is a selfish road behavior that can be dangerous and I do not support or justify it.
Driving 10 below (outside of extreme weather or traffic situations) may not be as unsafe in most situations but it’s also a selfish road behavior that can lead to accidents or road rage incidents. We can both be in the wrong and strive to be better, safer drivers by obeying traffic laws. If you can’t see that, I won’t argue, I will just hope I am never driving near you.

@JOE_M_MILLER driving 10mph slower than the rest of traffic can actually considered a traffic hazard. you could even get pulled over for doing so if it disrupts the traffic flow, as that is a safety hazard for you and the other drivers around you. forcing every car that comes up behind you to have to go around you, just so they can drive the speed limit, is quite inconsiderate imo. if you are just doing it on small/not busy roads its not a problem, but if you are doing it on the interstate or when traffic is heavy, that could cause an accident
