Organized and dedicated people are organizing self-defense coalitions. If you're in LA it's never been easier - you mostly just are asked to be a body with eyes, ears, and empathy for a few hours a week. Community self-defense is one of the sole things blocking ICE from kidnapping more people right now. Be a part of the demonstration that this is not acceptable.

If any of you are attending a protest this weekend here are some things you should be aware of/safety tips -
• Saline works better than water/milk for tear gas • You should be hydrating the day before and during the march • Bring goggles (with no ventilation) and a face mask • IF YOU ARE IN TEXAS - remember that we are in a red state and there are a lot of people who carry and support ICE, so be mindful of your surroundings and keep it peaceful ! — also be aware that our governor is an asshat who wants us to act out and get arrested to prove a point • If you are undocumented, it may be best to stay home • Carry American flags as well as Mexican/Palestinian • Do not park too close to the site • Leave your phone at home if at all possible - write emergency contacts on your arm • Bring something to cover up tattoos/identifiable marks • Bring a buddy and discuss a quick exit plan if necessary; also discuss a meet up spot if you get separated • WATCH YOUR DISTANCE - as you’ve probably seen already, law enforcement is shooting people with rubber bullets at extremely close range. The closer you are to them, the more likely they are to target you.
If you would like to attend a protest, I have added a link to the No Kings website where you can find one closest to your city. (There are an insane amount all over the US and other countries at this point)
Please stay safe and cool out there <3

I live in LA. It’s been tough to see innocent people hurt here and around the globe. I feel entirely powerless reading the news. I feel entirely powerless about climate change. My future is bleak to say the least.
I wanted to do something, but nothing felt big enough.
So I tried to ignore it. I buried my head in the sand and hoped that somehow someone would save the world. But it still ate away in the back of my mind.
I had to do something to feel better.
I went to protests. I started going to city council meetings and giving my opinion. I joined a few local advocacy organizations. I volunteered to feed the homeless.
I feel a bit better.

I will get an idea to go somewhere, do something, reach out to someone, and flip flop for ages on whether or not to do it, weighing all pros and cons.. I try now to just decide yes if I’m flip flopping and usually it goes great!

I simply love the library. I just moved to a new city and I’m looking for work and I can plop myself down in the library, go on my laptop and look for jobs, leaf thru some books, the membership gets me free tix to cultural institutions and free streaming, in my branch there is even a cute patio with comfy chairs to work outside! A blessing and one public thing US cities do really well
