here are some things I've done in my 20s that were a blast: - learned to fly a kite (flying a kite as an adult is the best - i recc doing it at the beach if you can manage it, more wind there) - recreating one of the showstopper bakes from the Great British Bake Off (it absolutely sucked but was really fun haha who knew baking was an exact science?) - bought some blank white shelves and invited all my friends over to paint them - attend a workshop at the library (i went to one that taught me how to pickle vegetables!) - make a perfect summer playlist, burn it on CDs, give it out to friends - make a different kind of lemonade/iced tea every week (i really looked forward to opening my fridge every day when I was doing this) - buy a book of poetry and spend so so so long going through the pages and illustrating the poem in the margins (or doodle whatever) - find a local pizzeria/bar that does open mics and go listen to the performers with some friends (why not? pizza? music? and lots to talk about!) - make shaved ice at home! (or home made ice cream if you're feeling particularly bold) - go listen to your municipal band play at the park - figure out whats in season in your region produce wise and challenge yourself to make dinner just from what you can find at a farmers market or something h.a.g.s. xoxo

I took up stained glass as a hobby a few years ago. You know those shows where people move off the grid and they have so much pride for the way they live, even though they have to shovel thru 6ft of rocks and dirt every time they want to take a shower? The closest I have gotten to that feeling is making things with my hands. it started at knitting, then shrinky dink keychains, then cricuting tote bags and t shirts, then collaging, and most recently making stained glass. I love having Bloody battled lil finger pads and holding something sharp and real up to the window that exists in space and time because I FORGED IT! In reality, I am making silly little suncatchers for my friends that Aren't all rock and roll, but it makes me feel powerful and good. Can recommend stained glass but also any hobby where you create something fun and cute for Sport

Began watching 'Wildfire' as a past horse girl (side note: it's a great show- drama and music wise... includes early performances of James Blunt, Katy Perry and many more). Adore horses and riding but lived in London all my life and hence riding being wildly expensive was never a passion I could pursue as I wished to. And I suppose over time it became cemented as something I COULDN'T do. But fear not, as an adult, my income is for me to spend as I choose (thankfully, I have no dependents), hence am going to take up horseriding again on my own terms. And I hope it'll make me happy. SO really, I suppose this rec is just to say to anyone who couldn't afford a hobby once, that doesn't mean you can't now or won't in the future. Buy that easel, get some good paints, buy that piano (second hand, we haven't won the lottery... yet.), take music lessons, try a new sport, take that cookery course.. the opportunities and possibilities are endless. Hmm. Perhaps not yachting...
