beautifully colorful darkly hilarious screwball comedy. what happened to all the screwball comedies. there arent enough screwball comedies these days. recommended this to a friend specifically bc a woman is a woman is one of her favorite movies.
A Woman Under the InfluenceĀ is so authentically feminist and paints a clear picture of the subjugation of women and the stigma around mental health.Ā
Mabelās character is written so fantastically; a woman who is full of love and is trying to pour her love into everyone around her. Struggling and yet consistently reaching out while those around her donāt have the capability to help her and not enough compassion nor patience to try and understand her.
itās a recommendation from a film school best friend, and I feel like this film not only dissects womanhood, but also shows how a gay boy like me, being surrounded by women, felt so comfortable and warm :)
