It's so tempting, but I haven't been able to fully commit to a dumb phone! Instead, I tried to make my smartphone a lil bit dumber by:
- using a minimal launcher app (I use OLauncher) to basically limit your home screen and make it boring - deleting most social media apps and only checking them occasionally in a web browser where they're harder to scroll on and kind of annoying to use - turning off history on apps like YouTube so they can't give me recommendations, meaning I really only use it when I have something in mind that I want to look up - turning off notifications for non-messaging based apps-- even pi.fyi - only having time waster games that you aren't forced to check regularly, like I love hue

Absolutely cannot take credit for this (my husband hipped me to the concept). Basically, you delete or hide most of your apps so you’re down to a bare minimum. I could probably stand to chop a couple more… but the idea is, you have less readily distracting you on your phone!
Here’s my new home screen.

i figured i’m probably a phone addict (arent we all?), so in addition to not keeping my phone in my pocket while i’m at home and muting notifications for every app except phone and messages, i deleted almost ever non-necessary app and put all the apps i use most on my home screen. hopefully this makes me smarter 🙏
if anyone has done something like this and has suggestions/advice lmk

I've been researching purchasing a dumb phone on and off for about a year and have realized that, even if we don't want to be, there are so many things that require us to have a phone nowadays - whether it be for work, school, or going out, a phone is required almost everywhere. if you are really struggling with phone addiction, delete all the social media apps off of your phone (keep the accounts you have for now) and whittle down your apps to the absolute basics. for me, I just have Spotify, my navigation app, and my school/work/banking necessities. you are able to redownload apps or look websites up online, but you also need to put the commitment in yourself. I've been starting to use my phone less and less (average screen time is around five hours) but I also know that I still have work to do. if you want any more useful tips let me know!

I grew up loving this movie and I rewatch it every time I'm feeling a little bit burnt out or directionless
I know the main character is only like thirteen, but the movie perfectly captures the feeling of moving out of your hometown and trying to figure out who you are and what you want to do, so it hits it even harder in your late teens/early 20s imo haha
It's also just so cozy! I love the art and music

love using it for planners, trackers, to-do lists, and even brainstorming for creative projects
there's enough customization for it to feel personal, but not SO much that I can endlessly procrastinate with the customization features lmao
as an android user who doesn't have icloud, I also love an app where I can log in on both mobile and desktop
