Just randomly came up on my recommended page and clicked in it for something to play in the background while doing the dishes. ended up getting way more emotional than I thought. it’s pretty much a video about YouTuber globert playing a dying game for 30 days and really showcases the communities of ol’ that we lost when the internet became more centralised. watching globert interact with this small community of dedicated players to a game that is boarder-line lost to time really made me long to what the internet used to be, People trying to make real connections in a virtual spaces. give it a watch.

I invented this game during the pandemic. It was just me and my roommates at the time (and we didn't have much in common). First, you go to the youtube channel "Kinolibrary" (I linked it). Once there, you will see an extremely large assortment of video clips from all different eras and cultures. Literally from when the camera was first invented all the way up to the mid 00's. Video clips of Brazilian native tribes to teens trying out the PS1 in England in the 1990s, suburban 1970s neighborhoods, Mao Zedong era of china, NYC nightlife in the 1980s, Soviet Russia, etc. It's fascinating to scan through it. Many of these clips do not feature sound which is disappointing. So here is the game I invented:
1. First, you make two teams. I have only played this with four people total so two people on each team. What you will need is a TV that can play the youtube videos and some kind of sound system. For me, I used my TV in the living room and my record player and collection of records which was in the same room. You can also use a speaker and spotify or a CD player, etc. 2. The team that is up first will have one person be the "video selector" and the other one "song selector" (you choose who does what and can switch each round). 3. The person who is picking the video must do this without the person picking the song seeing what video they pick. This goes for the song selector as well, the video person can not know what song you are selecting. For example, I kept my back to the TV while picking the record and putting it on while my teammate chose the video and did not look at what record I chose. 4. Once the video has been selected, the player will say "video selected" and once the song selector has their song, they say "song selected." Then each person will count to 3 and start the song and video at the same time. Everyone will face their attention to the screen and see what has been selected. 5. The opposing team has their eyes closed the whole time this is happening and opens them on the count of three. 6. While enjoying the video and audio experience, everyone must be truthful in judging if the video and song go together. For example, I once selected the song "Sunday Morning" by The Velvet Underground while it played over footage of a communist Chinese military parade. And it fucking slapped. You wouldn't think it would but it absolutely did. No one could deny it, so my team got the point. Another example would be the time my friend picked footage of some teenagers breakdancing in NYC in the 1970s and the song that their teammate picked was "In My Eyes" by Minor Threat. We all agreed the vibe was off and it did not match up well so they did not get the point. 7. If there is an argument that ensues about if someone gets the point or not, the opposing team needs to state their case why it does not go together. 8. The objective basically is to get as many points as you can by matching songs that go with the videos selected. I've found that as the game goes on, there is this weird connection that you can form with your teammate through just telepathy (or maybe that's the drugs?) It also makes for some funny videos too or really sad ones (like the time someone picked Linger over footage of The Troubles in Ireland). Basically, it's about the vibe.
I hope you enjoyed the game I made :)

it’s been a minute since i indulged in a good indie game as i have been in my dark souls bag as of late but these were the games i would recommend that i love!
MUTAZIONE - DIE GUTE FABRIK (2019) a gorgeous game which follows a girl named Kai on her journey to meet her dying grandfather. set on an island near rio which was struck by an asteroid causing the island to be inhabited by mutants. help their island thrive by working with the surrounding nature and meet everyone! the most beautiful soundtrack of any game i’ve ever played, gorgeous visuals too. if you are looking for a low stakes low maintenance game to chill with then this is the one. there is also a free play mode where you can just make lovely gardens!
AFTERPARTY - NIGHT SCHOOL STUDIO (2019) the lesser known cooler younger sister of OXENFREE (which i would also recommend). afterparty follows two recently deceased best friends navigate their way through (and hopefully out) of hell. after some digging they find a loophole to give themselves another chance at life; to out drink the devil. very personalised player experience with multiple different endings, and even your own personal demon criticising you for every decision you make. very good game, can be multiplayer, mostly point and click with a few minigames, more of a work out for the brain!
ABZU - GIANT SQUID (2017) this game is a spiritual experience. you, as the player are given a vessel to explore the beauties are ocean has to offer. you’re job is to restore the various species to their rightful habitats. the game is so gorgeous, the soundtrack is amazing and you might learn something about your local marine life!
NIGHT IN THE WOODS - SECRET LAB (2017) night in the woods is based in Mai Borowski, a recent college drop out’s, hometown. she seeks to find meaning and stability in her old life which is irreparably different than before. with mystery and emotional depth, many find this game to be the perfect thing to play when you’re feeling lost in life!
SPIRITFARER - THUNDER LOTUS GAMES (2020) in spiritfarer you play as stella, a girl with big shoes to fill. stella’s new job is to be the ferrymaster and escort the across the everdoor and to the afterlife. stella reunites with loved ones and departs from them too, in the mean time accommodating to the spirits whims. gorgeous game that deals with themes of grief but has a lot to do in it!
CHEF RPG - PIXEL ARCHITECT (2024) chef rpg made by noah, otherwise known as pixel architect, is an upcoming “stardew valley” game centering a young chef who flees their life in the big city to white ash harbour to revive a once famous restaurant. the coolest thing about this game is that you can watch the developer make it! on noah’s youtube channel you can watch him create this game piece by piece. im really looking forward to it coming out!
COFFEE TALK - TOGE PRODUCTIONS (2020) this game has a special place in my heart. in coffee talk you play as a barista in a coffee shop that’s only open at night. you spend your time making drinks for regulars and listening to their story develop night after night. the drinks you make have a big impact on the game. there’s a second game now which i haven’t played yet but this is a super relaxing games which packs a good punch in the emotional department!
STRAY - BLUETWELVE STUDIOS (2022) i’m sure you’ve seen this game before. you, a little cat, navigate the ghost of an underground metropolis. the empty and failing city seems a little less lonely when you meet B-12 the friendly drone that assists you in navigating the unknown territory!
NOT INDIE: BEYOND TWO SOULS - QUANTIC DREAM (2013) every single time someone says they like life is strange i tell them they have to play this! Jodie is a girl who has had a gift her whole life, what she does with that gift is up to you. with multiple different endings, it can be pretty high stakes. you should def play!!!
so sorry this was so long, i hope you enjoy some of these as much i have! xoxo

too often people complain about having a ‘stomachache’ before gripping on their lower abdomen to relieve the pain. not to be pedantic but how actually dare you?
the stomach is in the upper abdomen minding her own, getting the job done, and you’re attributing the downstairs nuisance of the bowels and uterus to her name???
you have a BOWEL ache, you have UTERUS cramps... the stomach chooses not to affiliate herself with those organs (she told me) x
free the stomach from this slander!
