Social media has always stressed me the hell out because, by the time I joined, every platform I was on already had a very established culture I guess?
I waited a very long time to join instagram, and when I finally did, it was pretty deep into the influencer era and around the same time Meta was starting to lean harder into the advertising and engagement-bait (reels, non-chronological timeline where random posts were prioritized over ones from actual friends) so it never really felt like a fully social space to me. People I knew would spend hours with their friends asking each other for approval on curated posts about group hangouts, and I just felt like there were a bunch of "rules" about how to present yourself that I wasn't clued in on.
Being on here is refreshing because it's the first time I've ever experienced a young social network! There's no pressure, no expectation, no heavy advertising, no lifestyle influencers, no way to monetize your posts and turn it into a side hustle, etc. Everyone just kind of talks about stuff they enjoy!
It's made me realize why so many people are nostalgic for the myspace and early instagram days for sure haha

that is so fascinating... i haven't thought about how early social media adoption is a more common experience for millennials. it sounds really tough to join once the culture is already established

Is it just me or social media is slowly but surely starting to feel wholesome again? I might just be living in a bubble, but I feel like young people have started to realize the harm of excess scrolling, prioritizing actual connections and taking time off from internet. With all the overflowing capitalism and advertising, people are starting to create their own communities free of that, take this site for example. Not quite the Wild West internet of the y2k but something else entirely, something more.. real. Authenticity is cool again.

Was going through instagram stories for the first time in months. Nothing wrong with using social media in the right way or really however you want to. I just really don’t miss it when I avoid it and when I go back I like it less and less.
PI feels like an exception- it’s a much purer form. Not trying to kiss ASS here, but it kinda just feels like old twitter which was a happy place in the timeline of social media…

Whats everyone’s relationships with social media right now? I just started an internship and am really loving to learn how to cook and read. I honestly think I’m closer than ever to being able to just delete instagram. It’s the only social media I have left. I love this app because it has character and whimsy that reminds me of 2000s era internet where profit wasn’t the motive of everything on the internet but rather just sharing experiences.

I grew up loving this movie and I rewatch it every time I'm feeling a little bit burnt out or directionless
I know the main character is only like thirteen, but the movie perfectly captures the feeling of moving out of your hometown and trying to figure out who you are and what you want to do, so it hits it even harder in your late teens/early 20s imo haha
It's also just so cozy! I love the art and music

love using it for planners, trackers, to-do lists, and even brainstorming for creative projects
there's enough customization for it to feel personal, but not SO much that I can endlessly procrastinate with the customization features lmao
as an android user who doesn't have icloud, I also love an app where I can log in on both mobile and desktop
