It was great. I grew up in a huge social housing area, there used to be 10+ of us playing street games after school in the evenings. I played PC games on my Dell PC and fell in love with more and more music by downloading random songs on Limewire. By the time mp3 players came into my life, sites to convert YouTube videos into mp3 became my most visited. I watched Sunday evening movies on tv that I had seen would be playing because I read the Tv Magazine earlier in the week. Me and my best friend would have competitions dancing on a dance mat she got for Christmas or sing karaoke on SingStar. By 2008 for £3 I could by 10 cigarettes for me and my friends. A great time to grow up.

Before there was the Wii, there was the ps2 Eyetoy. hours and hours of washing windows.
My first ever gaming memories are sitting on my dad’s knee while he played final fantasy 8 on the desktop computer. Then, the first christmas after my mum died, he bought us a ps2 and I watched him and my sister play FF9 and later FFX which was the first “proper game” I ever played. He also got us dance mats, and singstar, and later guitar hero. My childhood gaming was mostly musical. I sold my ps2 (it still worked) 2 years ago and I regret it sooooo much!

kinda basic but truly what a fun game. I dabbled in a lot of those multiplayer websites when I was wayyy too young (parents didn’t care abt internet restriction; I’m the youngest child in my fam) but this was just the best. My brother and I used to wait until midnight on holidays to see what the drops would look like. Learned vaguely about sex and bullying and surfing, as much as the website allowed at least. My friend the other day sent me a meme that had a pic of the lighthouse and I felt genuine nostalgia. When it shut down, I dabbled in the legacy ”mod” and have been thinking about getting back into it 🤔 a trip down memory lane!

I had a nostalgia flashback a few days ago, and it felt like I was still there at my aunt and uncle's house in Middleton, Massachusetts playing this for the first time. I remembered the view out the window, sitting on the hardwood floor, and the menu music playing out of the huge rear-projection TV set (I'll be able to press play on that song in my brain at any given moment for the rest of my life.) I had never really had a flashback like this before, but I got really emotional. This week has personally been one of the hardest for me in a long time, and in that moment, I wanted to be back there so badly when everything was so much easier.

Fuck the classics, unless that's what you ACTUALLY want to read. Read erotic novels, books only written by Real Housewives or just the paper. Just read, your aging brain will thank you.
