got a text last week that my reservation on Justine Cooks by Justine Doiron was ready for collection. remembered after flicking thru it that i put it on hold months ago after seeing crispyegg420 on insta citing her tofu 'ndjua recipe. there are so many recipes i'm excited to try out <3

including on-demand e-books! fun way to really dive into a particular cuisine without dropping $$ or find the one or two recipes you’d actually make again from whatever trendy cookbook du jour. or try something totally rando/obscure that is probably more vetted than a recipe from an affiliate-link-ridden blog. i checked out the e-book of “Indian-ish” by Priya Krishna like 11 times so i finally bought it, but knew by then that it was a good investment!

a great way to start integrating recipes in a low stress way and thinking creatively about food while relaxing 😌 I was reading *A Painter's Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O'Keeffe* before bed recently and it contains little anecdotes about O’Keeffe from her assistant at the time. In it she says that O’Keeffe would also read cookbooks before bed and that they’re “good company,” so I knew I was on the right track at least in this part of my life.

The pages of my favourite recipes are always fucked up (well loved)! I annotate as I go so I can actually remember what went wrong last time/what worked/future mods. If I wing a dish and it turns out really well, I write it down. All this note taking has made me a much better + more intentional cook. When I was relying more on digital recipes, I was simply losing my thoughts and ideas to the ether.
We live in the future! Why would I scroll on my phone if I don’t have to?
