New York City has a wealth of opportunities to see world class orchestras BUT they're often expensive and "a whole thing" to go see. The Fort Greene Orchestra performs in a Catholic cathedral in Prospects Heights BK, and generally perform a single symphony (no intermission). The tickets are priced right and the audience has a real community energy. I just bought season tickets.
not too high of course. especially if it’s a Big Thing. but if it’s a pay what you want at Lincoln center it’s an affordable way to Open Your Mind to the arts
I've been to see orchestras play twice recently at the local concert hall. I got my tickets for £5 both times. I put on a nice little outfit and walked through the park and got a glass of wine and sat down with everyone else and experienced awe!! I am new to classical music and I always come out of it with my ears feeling refreshed. Everything I listen to (of all genres) after sitting through a performance or listening to a whole symphony sounds so much more alive
your list of concerts attended should be varied. buy a ticket to your local orchestra, play dress up, and go listen to some beautiful music. they usually have a huge range of concerts from mozart and vivaldi to playing the scores of popular movies. support all the arts! not just the visual and popular ones!
I saw this movie at the Music Box theater in Chicago with a friend years ago when it came out. Although it's almost 3 hours long, I remember feeling engrossed by exploring a Taipei, a city I know very little about, and the simmering family dynamics.
Rewatching it recently after borrowing the for-real DVD from the Brooklyn library (extra recommendation: borrow DVDs from libraries), the realization of my own getting older and family transitions gave me a more introspective feeling. Heavy, but not sad.
