The man responsible for dozens of Teenage Symphonies to God "Sad songs about happy things" (the first time, as a kid, I can recall the sweet/sour combo of melodies that could make you cry attached to songs about endless, bottomless love) I've long since lost track of how many weddings and funerals I've attended that have featured this song; suffice it to say, "a lot." God only knows what we'd been without him 🙏🏻

given my tendency to post about the beach boys once a week, I have to post a rec for my goat. rest in peace, legend. if you havent listened to the beach boys or brian's music in general, I'd reccomend it to everyone. absolutely gutted that he's no longer with us. the beach boys have been part of my life for the last 14 years or so and I can genuinely say my life wouldn't be the same without his music. it was the first thing my now boyfriend and I talked about when we matched on bumble. I can still remember hearing Surf's Up for the first time and thinking it was the most beautiful song ever made- then sending it to my crush (we were like 10 btw) and being shocked when he didn't agree. he was one of my inspirations for picking up a bass guitar (along with paul mccartney ofc). his music has gotten me through tough times and brought out so many emotions in me. Im so gutted right now yall. love and mercy ❤️

as someone who will wait by my phone for hours all for a measly text back, I think it’s time I break this habit and to implore others to do so as well.
• experience a texture other than your phone screen. (ex. a loved ones skin, oobleck, soap suds.) • write a letter to someone you love. (could even be to yourself or a pet!) • take a long, warm bath. • start the book you bought months ago and have not touched since. • invest in some physical media. (if you can’t hold it in your hands, you don’t own it! even though the internet is “forever“, it’s pretty impressive how some media can be completely wiped/altered from the internet!) • trim your hair ;) • sit outside in the sun like a plant photosynthesizing. • stop waiting for good things to come to you and create the good you wish to see in the world.
life is far too short to spend it mindlessly scrolling on these mini-supercomputers and letting others dictate your mood.

I like how he can pretty seamlessly jump from making stupid silly videos, to genuine critiques on the happenings of the world around us. He has a good balance of light-heartedness while not sugar coating his words that I look for in a person.

Throughout my past relationships I’ve noticed a pattern where I tend to lose myself. Whether it be to “fit” my partner better or simply just neglecting the things that make me, me, for a period whilst in a relationship. In my time sharing this experience with others, I’ve found that many often relate. I believe that the best thing you can do after a breakup is to become fully in touch with yourself again. My personal outlet happens to be writing, putting all those feelings down pen to paper has been one of the most cathartic things I can do after a breakup. Whether I’m spinning those words into a poem, a story or just a garbled mess of words on a page, I’ve found it really helps. So really, whatever your creative outlet is, dive deeper into that and it will almost always ease the pain.
