I may jest but I only learned because my gym rat brother and his girlfriend forcibly dragged me to Crunch Fitness and taught me. I second what others said about getting a temporary personal trainer especially to teach you about form in the beginning. It is scary as shit but you will gain strength and confidence with every lift. Showing up, getting protein, wiping down your equipment and training til failure is more important than any nitpicky gym thing people will tell you. Here are some of the basic splits I do, usually followed by like 20-30 mins of stairmaster/incline treadmill OR an ab circuit. Best of luck queen.
Note: The ski pole thing I reference is lat extensions lol sorry they’re one of my favs

becoming a regula in the gym and becoming literate in exercise are two different things. i can only do one thing at a time, so my rec to you is to start by just going to the gym and walking on the treadmill for 30 mins, at 3 mph, at a 12 incline, or as close to this as you can get. if you feel like after a few weeks you’re like yeah i can DO THIS!! and it’s become a habit where you’re like “i need to go to the gym or else i wont feel good” then you’re ready to level up and learn how to lift 👁️👄👁️ your workout won’t work unless you do! i would hate for you to spend COIN honey on a PT just to not go or fall off after a few weeks. if you’re already doing this then my next rec for you is below!!! you can learn to lift in different ways! you could hire a PT (worth every penny!) OR find a gym that does strength & conditioning group classes where you can learn. once you learn basic lift moves and feel confident (give it more time than you think) you can go to a gym and work out on your own. stay away from any gyms that you think give equinox/erewhon smoothie vibes (barry’s, orange theory - yeah this is shade). the best strength & conditioning gyms are locally owned and care more about you going than if you’re the most physically fit. and PLEASE avoid crossfit (don’t come at me crossfit ppl, ive been lifting since i was 12 and played collegiate sports!!! ZON’T) just trust ♥ pilates once a week also gets u shredded in addition to weight training & cardio! but pilates is also hella coins. also these other recs are GREAT for learning what to do in the gym, but you really still need to go through the process of learning good form for what a each major/basic lift is. you can really injure yourself with bad form/too much weight (bombastic side eye at YOU crossfit). just don’t do anything that frank does in the video i linked. remember: RDLs rock and always add in mobility!! hennyways…good luck xoxoxoxox [EDIT]: i made this rec at like 2 am because i couldn't sleep (caffeine too late in the day whew!) and i just realized you are wORKING at a gym 5 days a week. Okay Amazing Girl Boss Diva (gender neutral) ~~~~ i HOPE that your gym is chill, i also realize you might not be familiar with erewhon (sp?) or barry's if you're in melbourne! i just hope the people you work with are kind <3 find a PT that is cool at your gym and ask them to help you!! :)

While it can seem expensive and potentially insufferably pretentious to "have a personal trainer", if you just wanna learn e.g. a couple decent weights circuits and get some tips on how not to injure yourself etc., it's really worth paying them for 2-3 sessions just to get started. Next thing you know, random gymgoers will be asking you for tips on your obscure cable-pulley wood chops or whatever

They say nobody is paying attention to you in the gym but that is patently untrue because I am always people watching the few time that I am there. When you don't know how to work out you feel like the stupidest guy in the world but if you go with your friend then feeling stupid becomes having a laugh. For example you can do isolated calf raises one leg at a time and balance on each other's shoulders. You can do bicep curls in sync and giggle together. Your friend can show you how to do a lateral raise and you can whine about it but that's fine, you are just learning and spending time in good company. Everyone should have a gym buddy who teaches them a few random exercises that don't really apply to their physical needs
