becoming a regula in the gym and becoming literate in exercise are two different things. i can only do one thing at a time, so my rec to you is to start by just going to the gym and walking on the treadmill for 30 mins, at 3 mph, at a 12 incline, or as close to this as you can get. if you feel like after a few weeks you’re like yeah i can DO THIS!! and it’s become a habit where you’re like “i need to go to the gym or else i wont feel good” then you’re ready to level up and learn how to lift 👁️👄👁️ your workout won’t work unless you do! i would hate for you to spend COIN honey on a PT just to not go or fall off after a few weeks. if you’re already doing this then my next rec for you is below!!!
you can learn to lift in different ways! you could hire a PT (worth every penny!) OR find a gym that does strength & conditioning group classes where you can learn. once you learn basic lift moves and feel confident (give it more time than you think) you can go to a gym and work out on your own. stay away from any gyms that you think give equinox/erewhon smoothie vibes (barry’s, orange theory - yeah this is shade). the best strength & conditioning gyms are locally owned and care more about you going than if you’re the most physically fit. and PLEASE avoid crossfit (don’t come at me crossfit ppl, ive been lifting since i was 12 and played collegiate sports!!! ZON’T) just trust ♥ pilates once a week also gets u shredded in addition to weight training & cardio! but pilates is also hella coins.
also these other recs are GREAT for learning what to do in the gym, but you really still need to go through the process of learning good form for what a each major/basic lift is. you can really injure yourself with bad form/too much weight (bombastic side eye at YOU crossfit). just don’t do anything that frank does in the video i linked. remember: RDLs rock and always add in mobility!! hennyways…good luck xoxoxoxox
[EDIT]: i made this rec at like 2 am because i couldn't sleep (caffeine too late in the day whew!) and i just realized you are wORKING at a gym 5 days a week. Okay Amazing Girl Boss Diva (gender neutral) ~~~~ i HOPE that your gym is chill, i also realize you might not be familiar with erewhon (sp?) or barry's if you're in melbourne! i just hope the people you work with are kind <3 find a PT that is cool at your gym and ask them to help you!! :)
You ANGEL this is so comprehensive and sweet. Thank you so much 🙏 this advice is much appreciated. We don’t have erehwon here but I am familiar with the concept hahahah. You have inspired me - thank you 🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️
I may jest but I only learned because my gym rat brother and his girlfriend forcibly dragged me to Crunch Fitness and taught me. I second what others said about getting a temporary personal trainer especially to teach you about form in the beginning. It is scary as shit but you will gain strength and confidence with every lift. Showing up, getting protein, wiping down your equipment and training til failure is more important than any nitpicky gym thing people will tell you. Here are some of the basic splits I do, usually followed by like 20-30 mins of stairmaster/incline treadmill OR an ab circuit. Best of luck queen. Note: The ski pole thing I reference is lat extensions lol sorry they’re one of my favs
go to the gym. i was kinda scared of going to the gym at first due to self-esteem, but after going for about nearly a month now its like i dont care. you might think youre being judged or you just dont fit into that type of place. i can assure you though the people there are also just trying to better themselves. they are also so nice & uplifting, no pun intended. my favorite thing to do is the treadmill & calf extensions. i highly recommend the treadmill, if you want to be simple, especially on an incline of 12-15 percent at a 3-3.2 speed. another thing i recommend is stretching; sometimes parts of our bodies go over looked in our day to day life and they tend to tighten up. stretching will make you feel much more agile!
I got into weight lifting for the same reason I get into most things, which is pure unbridled vanity. I read or heard somewhere in my many biohacker information channels that weight lifting is the most anti-aging form of exercise, especially for women, and so I was like on my way! I wasn’t about to pay some community college bro $100 an hour at my LA Fitness to train me though so I just googled “weight lifting classes near me” and because I live a charmed and bless life I found the fucking coolest independent gym like a mile from my house and have been going there for almost a year. Vanity aside, it just makes you feel so good all the time. I love watching myself get stronger and I love the feeling after you lift something really heavy you thought you could never have lifted and I love all the neighborhood friends I’ve made there, including former PI subject and possibly coolest girl alive Petra Cortright. (Honestly a large part of my social life takes place there?) Anyway everyone over 30 should lift weights, preserve your waning muscle mass and build up your self-esteem babe.
everytime i log on and see my web user homies posting, i be like 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼 bonjour! or whatever the frig belle sings at the beginning of beauty and the beast 🥲 like i saw @MARXINISTA mornin post and i was like GM 😇✍🏼👋🏼 <3
@TYLER please let us be free from the commodification of the data generated from our social, whimsical, and sincere, free expression the sincerity of this app is because it’s different from those other apps :/ why do we need metrics on how we socialize? 😮💨😮💨 i’m curious as much as i am sad about the decision to make the star count visible. is that what its proper name is? or are we calling it likes? 👀
