be in your body

I've gone to a few shows solo and find dancing to be the best way to shake out the nerves. Tune into the music and enjoy it. That's what you're there for. In yoga they say to stay with the breath through challenging poses and moves. Same goes here. Stay with the breath and the music. It's your experience. -- Engage. Complimenting people is a good way to start a conversation. Where did you get those incredible boots, love your shirt it reminds me of ___, etc. If you have a question, any question, ask the people around you. Don't look it up on your phone or ask an employee. Have you tried this drink/snack on the menu? Do you know what time this DJ goes on? Have you seen this DJ before? -- Comfort and confidence attracts. I have the tendency to overthink how I'm being percieved and the answer to that is just to do your damn thing and realize everyone else is in their own head with their own thoughts. You can't control what they think and *no one is thinking about you the way you are thinking about you.* You ever see somebody just doing their own thing and not worrying about anyone else? It's the hottest shit ever. People are going to gravitate toward you. -- Hit da bricks! You have the freedom to leave if you're not having a good time. You can skedaddle whenever you want to. But I would say challenge yourself to push past the uncomfortable part at least once during the night, because that's where you learn the most about yourself. Also second having a sparkling water or other NA beverage in hand. Something to do with your hands helps. Your party sounds so fun, have a good time!

️ Refill your well

Between socializing, traveling, working, and just dealing with life… we drain our wells. It’s imperative to refill it. For me, if I am on a big creative output, like working on an album, touring, etc… it’s really important to go to live shows, an exhibition, something to refill that creative hole I’ve expended. If I have a big week of socializing, it means spending a day in bed and not looking at my phone or socializing with anyone…losing myself in a book or binging an entire series behind my duvet.

Floor time (preferably on moss)

Life gets incredibly busy and hectic… taking a moment to ground yourself is important. Someone once told me if you lie on your back with your knees bent for 10 minutes, it realigns your spine… but I find it realigns my brain as well. I don’t have the focus, dedication, or patience to meditate, so I do this instead.  If you're able to find a patch of moss, it just brings it to the next level.  Don’t question it, just try.

Projections during dinner parties

I really enjoy cooking for people I love, and throwing a dinner party that runs late.  A good playlist is key, but if you really want to set a tone, I highly suggest projecting a film (without the audio) to sync with it.  My personal favorite is “Le Planet Sauvage.”
