young hugh grant and peter capaldi star in this weird ass late 80s british movie based on a 1911 novel by bram stoker (also wrote dracula) in which an archeologist (capaldi) discovers the skeleton of a giant worm creature which is featured in the town’s mythology. while investigating some local disappearances it becomes apparent that the ancient worm might be to blame and that a mysterious lady might be summoning it with virgin sacrifices. crazy cool early green screen,  awesome costumes, low quality creatures and acting, what’s not to love?

Ghostwatch is a horror mockumentary that aired on BBC on October 31st in 1992 as if it were a real, live paranormal investigation — mimicking shows like Most Haunted. It starts as a seemingly straightforward Halloween special, with actual BBC presenters Michael Parkinson in the studio, tuning into a “live” investigation of a haunted house
but it spirals into something really chilling and intense.  A lot of people missed the ‘this is a work of fiction’ warning at the start and assumed what was happening on TV was real. I think to this date it’s the most complaints the BBC have ever received. They’ve never aired it again.  It’s the perfect Halloween watch! For the full effect go in blind, start at 9:25pm — when the show originally aired — and follow it up with a chaser of spending all night googling the lore đŸ‘»Â  I love it so much I made this zine around this time last year!

One of the best found footage horror mockumentaries I've ever seen. I got to watch it for the first time at a local independent theater and it still haunts me to this day! ~1,000,000 phone calls were made to BBC received after the show was broadcast... On Live TV. This shows how brilliant this film is. For the Halloween season, I definitely recommend adding it to your watchlist!

as we approach halloween I would like to recommend this rendition of nosferatu by werner herzog that always leaves me feeling a little sad. the vampire makeup they give klaus kinski is goofy/cute/narsty but it lends him a pouting bulldog effect that I find emotionally compelling. the 70s practical effects also provide some good laughs. the main draw is the eternal loneliness of nosferatu though
you can see it in his eyes

i started hand-poke tattooing full-time in october after starting in 2020 when i realized literally anything can be a tattoo, and i cannot recommend dipping your toe into the culture and community of diy tattooing enough. the friends i’ve made who also love off-beat designs and scrappy, fun tattoos are pushing boundaries on what tattoos can be, and i am so incredibly grateful to have these people in my life. i have yet to step foot in a traditional tattoo shop and i thank god for that (love trad style, hate the largely macho culture). i’ll try to narrow down my recs to 5 within brooklyn: @stabs_bylili @julessportif @5_htpblanketsong @coolfriendtattoos.png @dastardly_child (and myself i guess lol @hidden_object__), but please just look for yourself, there are so many cool people doing cool things

i highly recommend:  “the cameraman’s revenge” (1912), la petite fille et son chat (1899), and the disturbing story of the dancing pig (1907).these videos project me back to another time and make me realize just how similar we are to past generations, yet so different. plots and gimmicks are intergenerational, styles are not. i recommend watching while a little high and with an open mind.
