Not sure why I didnāt learn how to do this earlier. My music taste slaps - it feels like Iāve spent my entire life compiling an extensive music library, and itās finally getting put to good use, gracing more than just the ears of me and my friends. Youāre welcome.
Iām still early on making music ā but this is it:
Iļø played like drums in middle school and then fell out of like āperformingā until adulthood when Iļø decided to start DJ-ing. Iļø loved that so much Iļø was like Iļø feel like Iļø can make my own things like 6 months ago and Iāve just been making small shitty 2 minute things for myself every day. For me itās kinda meditative? Like usually no one hears the songs I am making (besides my partner) but itās really just for me. No clue if any of them will ever reach a record or be on Spotify, but Iļø feel like itās making me greater appreciate music in general.
as part of my summer 2024 project, i'm trying to learn how to dj. today i made the most diabolical like downright atrocious mix i've ever heard but in the process of trying to get the app to dj i got 2 months free of apple music. and now i'm hearing sounds in songs i thought i KNEW like the back of my hand which makes them feel like i'm listening for the first time.
Iāve wasted hundreds of hours of my life - maybe even more - doing nothing but listening to music with weird effects put onto them. I like to drag and drop songs from my downloads folder and put a bunch of flanger and compression and low pass filters and blah blah blah⦠like whatever im feeling!! Its really boring but also really fun to me⦠and sometimes the inner workings of a song comes out when you put effects on it⦠frequencies that you didnāt even know were there!
I wanted to get a vintage flip phone to use on my days off, and ended up discovering that 2G and 3G service is basically obsolete within the US. Luckily, I found a cute phone that runs on 4G and even made some cute trinkets for it. I leave my iPhone at home during my morning walks, and on my days off, Iām only on my burner. I thought I needed a vacation until I started using my flip phone - 10/10, would recommend. Why the flip phone? There are countless reasons. I think about this experiment often.
Didnāt think Iād ever be cool with āoutside pantsā in my bed, but here we are. Kind of fun to be a rockstar about it, and the t-shirt additions to my wardrobe are a plus. Not sure what I expected - Iām dating Nick Hadad, after all.
Leisure Centre is a vintage shop on Hester Street in the Lower East Side. Frank, the owner, is a really cool, interesting dude - and his shop reflects that. Itās impossible to walk in there and not find something you like. Itās well-curated and well-priced; everything is a steal. I do damage every time I visit⦠my wardrobe is slowly turning into only pieces Iāve found here.
